Sandra Oh & Awkwafina Will Play Sisters In New Netflix Movie

Sandra Oh and Awkwafina are reportedly going to star together as estranged sisters in a Netflix movie.

The movie will be penned by the writer of the upcoming Hocus Pocus sequel, Jen D’Angelo. The upcoming movie will see a “lonely recluse” who will have an estranged “train wreck” of a sister as they decide to repair their relationship to get a slot for one of the sister’s favorite game show.

The Netflix movie is yet to be named and it will be produced by Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum. This will mark the first time the Golden Globe winners will share a screen together. However, it was long-awaited as Sandra had written a little something for Awkwafina for TIME 2019.

The Crazy Rich Asians alum was honored on the TIME 2019 100 Next List. Sandra shared that the last time she met Awkwafina was when they were eating burgers at director Jon M. Chu’s house after the Critics’ Choice Awards. The actress continued that she cannot express how pleased she was to see her “meteoric rise”.

The Killing Eve star wrote, “ I’m not surprised because she is a complete original. There are so many things I can point to; Her timing. Her beautiful, melancholic face. And her unforgettable voice.” Both actors have immense respect for the other.

Back in March 2019, Awkwafina shared her excitement for Sandra to be hosting Saturday Night Live. The star tweeted at the time saying that her 11-year-old self would have stood outside 30 rock for this. She further wrote, “Queen Sandra Oh !!”

“You Can’t Make Stuff The Way You Have For White Stories”

On an episode of Entertainment Tonight, Lauren Zima spoke to the Killing Eve alum about people turning to the long-time medical drama amid quarantine. Sandra used to play the iconic character of Dr. Cristina Yang from 2005 to 2014. She said she noticed a new crop of fans of the medical drama after the series started streaming on Netflix.

The actress says that with time more people will continue to discover the show as time goes. She said she wants people to enjoy the stories because there is a ‘real great comfort’ and a great familiarity in Greys. Sandra said, . “I’m really happy to be a part of that.”

Sandra was a part of many such projects like; The Princess Diaries to Killing Eve. The actress, however, admits that she only saw a positive change in Hollywood for the last two years when it comes to diversity. Although Sandra says the fight for good and inclusive roles are far from over.

Sandra expressed her gratitude for her upcoming projects and said, “I’m very, very grateful that my dance card is full.” She also explained why it is not easy to be a non-white actress. The actress said she is noticing interesting and different challenges.

She said, “When you tell diverse stories and you have diverse characters, you can’t make stuff the same way. You can’t make stuff the way you have for white stories. The system is set up for storytelling to go at a certain pace, and integrate a certain type of budget, and blah blah blah.”

We cannot wait for the venture to be started as we get to see the reel life sisters depicts their real-life chemistry on screen.
