Sandip Ray, Satyajit Ray’s son, says he’s ‘hearing both love and hatred’ for his father

Sandip Ray, the son of famed writer-director Satyajit Ray, has spoken out about Netflix’s anthology series Ray’s mixed reviews.

Sandip Ray, the son of writer-director Satyajit Ray, says he hasn’t seen the four-part Netflix anthology based on his father’s short stories but is aware of the divided reviews. Ray, directed by Srijit Mukherji, Abhishek Chaubey, and Vasan Bala, was conceived by Sayantan Mukherjee and comprises four films.

Sandip Ray, who has previously adapted his father’s writings, stated in an interview that he was never expected to be engaged in the creation of Ray.

“I will shortly see all four works in order to establish my own opinion, but I will do so as a person,” he told PTI news agency. “I’m getting both admiration and criticism,” he continued, “and that’s perfectly normal for any work of art, including anything derived from the works of a personality like Ray.”

Srijit Mukherji’s Bahupriya and Forget Me Not, Abhishek Chaubey’s Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa, and Vasan Bala’s Spotlight are among Ray’s four chapters. Ali Fazal, Manoj Bajpayee, Gajraj Rao, Harsh Vardhan Kapoor, Radhika Madan, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Kay Kay Menon, and others are among the cast members.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, the filmmaker joked that he’d be pleased for Satyajit Ray to watch his film on the condition that he’s near the exit door so he can depart quickly. Vasan Bala remarked that he would feel like a plagiarist if he were to do so.
