Salma Hayek Reveals Details About Her Eternals Character

Salma Hayek has revealed new details about her Eternals character. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings have completed nearly two weeks in theatres which means the attention is slowly turning to the next Marvel venture.

The next entry is that of Eternals in the MCU after Shang-Chi and the movie will also be introducing new characters just like the latter. The movie was written and directed by Chloe Zhao and revolves around a group of immortal aliens. They have been living on Earth for multiple millennia but have been instructed by their creators, the Celestials.

The Eternals are instructed to never interfere with human affairs unless their evil counterparts, the Deviants are involved. The aftermath of Avengers: Endgame has paced the way for Eternals after half the Earth’s population returns. Eternals features the most notable heroes like Ajak (Salma Hayek), Thena (Angelina Jolie), Ikaris (Richard Madden), and Sersi (Gemma Chan).

Recently, in an interview with Total Film, Salma Hayek has revealed new details about her Eternals character. Fans are aware of her character a bit but Salma let an interesting detail slip. She was discussing how Chloe wanted to “tackle the concept of leadership from the perspective of womanhood”.

Eternals Cannot Procreate?

The actress let it slip that her character cannot have kids. She said, “Chloé decided to tackle the concept of leadership from the perspective of motherhood… I’m not a mother. I’m an alien. I can’t have kids. However, my character used to be a man in the comics, now it’s a woman. So instead of just changing the gender, I proposed to [Zhao] to really bring something that is very specific to womanhood.”

Fans are already aware that Ajak was gender-swapped for the movie. In previous interviews, Salma has talked about how her character is like a maternal figure to the group. But this new detail about her character not being able to have kids is new. It is still unclear if she is saying that her character is infertile or that the Eternals cannot procreate as an entire race.

This concept has not been dealt with in the comics and we don’t know if it will be in the movie as well. Thanos was, however, known to be a member of the mysterious race and it is revealed that he was born with the Deviant Syndrome. He wasn’t created and he also has a child named Thane which suggests that the Eternals can procreate. Others details will only be revealed when the movie hits the theatres on November 5.
