Rising artist Becoming Young creates soul-stirring electro-pop music in his latest single “High”

Brandon James Calano, popularly known as Becoming Young, is a fast-rising American electro-pop musician and songwriter. The emerging artist is gearing up for the release of his latest single “High,” this month.

The track mixes between electro, indie, R&B, and urban pop stylings. “High” features a sensual, jazzy guitar hook and sizzling lyrical tales of a man who gives in to an uncontrollable desire. This single draws upon urban-hued electro-pop music from the likes of two feet, Dennis Lloyd, Khalid, Beauville, and NoMBe.

Brandon, who is currently single, says that he moved from his hometown in Colorado, after a breakup with his ex-girlfriend. This genesis of this relationship is depicted in the steamy song “High.” And the thread of this love-interest continues through virtually all of Calano’s forthcoming songs.

Becoming Young’s journey to eminence began when he moved to Nashville back in May 2019 and started performing and showcasing his talent every night in songwriter rounds. Brandon says that the reason he chose music as a career was because of his love for telling stories along with the connection he felt with people through his songs and lyrics.

He recalls getting a lucky break after he won Nashville’s Top Writers Series competition, with 64 invited contestants and eight finalists. Wining the songwriting competition motivated him to release “Trippin’,” which has done quite well on Spotify with over a quarter-million streams.

After his popular single release, Brandon, aka Becoming Young, started touring, playing sold-out shows in Atlanta, Denver, Boulder, Portland, and Seattle. While hustling through the pacific northwest, Brandon met producer Ryan Hadlock who is renowned for his work with artists such as Vance Joy, The Lumineers, Phillip Phillips, Milo Greene, and Brandi Carlile.

Brandon shared a new song with Ryan over email, which quickly caught his attention, and the two met for coffee at Beer Creek Studio to discuss working together. Brandon recalls how honored he was to meet one of his idols. “It was surreal,” Calano exclaimed—as he had listened to Hadlock-produced songs countless times over the years.

The two started by working on three cuts from Becoming Young’s forthcoming album, The Songs I Wrote You in January. During the studio sessions, Ryan introduced Brandon to legendary mixer John O’Mahony who will start mixing Becoming Young’s record in May. O’Mahony is best known for his work with artists including Matt Maeson, Coldplay, 21 Pilots, and Vance Joy.

Becoming Young has promised fans that on April 24, he will release a hot new single, “High.” This will be the first song on a four-track, summer jam EP, Feeling Single, which precedes the album. Becoming Young’s LP, The Songs I Wrote You, is based on the heartache aftermath of “High.”

Indeed, the future looks bright for this talented, upcoming electro-pop musician who concludes by saying that “Life’s messy, I write songs about it.”
