Ricky Gervais Slams the Kardashians for ‘Embarrassing’ Sponsored Posts

Ricky Gervais has expressed his displeasure with the Kardashians for accepting huge amounts of money for sponsored posts.

In a live Periscope broadcast, the comedian expressed his opinion revealing that he has been offered ‘mental money’ to promote products online. He said that celebrities should donate their money to charity instead of looting people for a single photo.

Ricky started ranting after a follower asked him what kind of beer is he drinking during the stream. He replied by giving a shoutout to BrewDog. In a clip from the stream, he asks jokingly for free stuff. The clip has almost 300,000 views.

Ricky called out BrewDog to send something to the ‘nurses or charity workers’. He suggested that the fees for endorsed tweets should directly go to charity. The writer further explained that he gets these offers for things for proper mental money.

Ricky said he gets it for endorsed tweets. He continued saying the Kardashians get something like £20,000 for one post. The comedian said they could just sit on a bench while holding a chocolate bar. He says even he has been offered such things.

Ricky further labels these promotional collaborations as embarrassing. He says he wants to be real and he does not mind doing an advertisement when everyone knows he is getting paid to do that. The writer further said he has always said no but perhaps he should be asking companies to send the money to charity.

‘Why don’t we all just be honest from now on?’ he added. BrewDog went on to repost the clip on their Twitter account, commenting: ‘We didn’t have to pay for this publicity so we donated money to these charities instead @Nowzad @AllDogsMatter @AnimalsAsia@Paws2RescueUK Cheers @rickygervais.’ 

Ricky on Cancel Culture

Ricky also slammed the ‘cancel culture’ that is doing the rounds time and again. He says that ‘wokeness’ is ‘a weird sort of fascism’. He encourages the idea of calls for ‘the free exchange of information and ideas.’

The comedian revealed in an interview with talkRadio earlier that there is a new trend that people who want free speech want to say awful things all the time. He said it isn’t true and it protects everyone. Ricky said, ‘If you’re mildly conservative, you’re Hitler and if you’re centrist and you look at both arguments, you’re a coward. Just because you’re offended it doesn’t mean you’re right.’

The actor recently revealed that his sitcom ‘The Office’ would struggle to air today due to online ‘outrage mobs’. He further said that broadcasters are afraid to take risks when it comes to content.

The program, set at a paper firm in Slough, Berkshire, sees the actor usually mock minorities as he grapples with political accuracy.

Yet The Office, which aired from 2001 to 2002, won numerous Baftas and Golden Globes and is widely seen as one of the best British comedies ever made.
