While the theatres are still shut, we are getting to see new movie releases on the OTT platforms. The latest Bollywood film to release is Gulabo Sitabo, which is now available on Amazon Prime.
The film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles. The director of the film, Shoojit Sircar has revealed a fun fact about the film’s casting. He has talked about how he narrated the story to Ayushmann in Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s wedding reception.
He told Zoom TV, “Yes, he (Ayushmann) was the first choice but before that we debated a lot. His casting was done later. First was Mr Bachchan’s casting and then I remember I think I broke the news to him, I remember it was….Deepika Padukone’s reception (laughs). So at that reception I gave him the basic narration, I remember. And you know that’s when we agreed (to do the film). He was excited, he was jumping since then. So, I think we first bounced the idea to him at the their reception.”
The film is based in Lucknow where Big B plays the role of Mirza who owns a haveli named Fatima Mahal. Ayushmann played the role of his tenant Baankey. Earlier in an interview with IANS, Ayushmann had talked about Mr Bachchan and how he helped him improvise his lines. “That was such an eye opener for me. I remember when I was marking my own lines in the script and he was like why are you marking your own lines you should mark my lines also. That goes to show he believes in the totality of the process, he’s not a selfish actor, he is a collaborator,” the actor had said.
