In April 2015, Ashtavinayak’s CEO and producer Raj Mehta and his son Dhillin Mehta were sentenced to prison in a money laundering case. Harshad Purshottamdas Mehta, popularly known as Raj Mehta, has been granted conditional bail after nearly 6.5 years in prison.
Released from Prison
According to ETimes, he will be released from prison either on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. The bail order was given on Tuesday evening, according to portal sources. However, nothing is known about Dhillin Mehta’s bail.
“Dhilin Mehta had created multiple sham companies, engaged into bogus agreements, and then moved funds to overseas subsidiary companies, which were found misappropriated to the amounting to Rs 824.68 crore and therefore deceived shareholders,” according to a report in India Legal Live.
The bail for producer Raj Mehta was granted on the grounds that the trial would not be completed in a reasonable amount of time. Raj Mehta was granted bail on the condition that he surrender his passport, report to the local police on a regular basis, and attend the trial proceedings against him whenever the court requests his presence.
Bail for producer Mehta has been denied many times. Previously, the petition had submitted many applications before the learned Magistrate and also before the learned Sessions Court, all of which were dismissed on the merits, primarily due to the crime being an economic violation,” according to a section of the report.
Raj Mehta and his son Dhillin Mehta have produced a number of Bollywood films, including the Jab We Met series, Rockstar, Dabbang, and Bol Bachchan.
