Quavo Says Girlfriend Saweetie Is Showing Him ‘How to Love a Woman’

Quavo and Saweetie give fans a glimpse into their love life in GQ magazine’s latest feature. The lovebirds reflect on their two-year relationship, reminisce on how they first met and reveal what attracted them to each other. Their meet-cute might even be enough to make you believe in true love.

Snowflake’s and Stir-Fry’s

The Migos member and Saweetie, the proud USC alum, revealed that their relationship started in quite the millennial manner. You guessed it, Quavo totally slid into the Icy Girl’s DM’s.

“I seen her on my Explore page,” recalled Quavo of the first time he came across Saweetie. “I was like, ‘Damn! Who is this?’ So I did my research and I DM her. How she going to call herself icy and she doesn’t talk to me?” said Quavo. “So I slid in her DM. I told her, ‘You an icy girl, you need a glacier boy.'” He also sent Saweetie the snowflake emoji. Her response? “I sent him the stir-fry back,” she said in reference to Migos’ hit track from 2018.

Soon enough, Huncho started hanging out with the My Type artist, who shyly confessed, “He’s always been fine to me. In a group chat [with friends], I would screenshot his picture and be like, ‘Damn.'”

The Couple’s Chaotic First Date

The rapper duo went on to flirt over DMs and phone calls, for months in 2018 before ever meeting face to face. They finally took things to the next level when they had their first date in Atlanta, which was a whirlwind of chaos to say the least. Saweetie recalls having an “awkward” dinner where Quavo choked on a crab cake at his favorite steakhouse. After which, the pair soon flocked to Atlanta’s rap-worthy strip club, Magic City. The night ended when a nasty fight broke out, sending everyone scrambling for the exits. Amid the chaos, Quavo and Saweetie lost each other. But Quavo says, “We ain’t look back since.”

Now, over two years later, the couple’s bond is stronger than ever. Both Saweetie and Quavo explained that their time together has helped them not only grow as artists, but also as individuals. Though they have completely opposite personality types, they balance each other perfectly, even often bringing out the best in each other. That is what keeps the couple grounded amidst the pressure of being in the spotlight.

“I don’t know how I would be as a person if I would have never met him”

For Saweetie, whose real name is Diamonté Harper, Quavo has taught her how to be a “better communicator.”

“Growing up I struggled with communication,” she said. “I feel like I’m growing and I’m maturing because of him, not the music, not Saweetie, but Diamonté. I don’t know how I would be as a person if I would have never met him.”

“I don’t let people inside my life, and I let her inside”

Quavo was all praise for his lady love, who he confesses, is showing him how to love a woman. “When she talk to me and when we started talking to each other, the Saweetie s*** go out the window, and the Quavo s*** go out the window.” The rapper, whose real name is Quavious Marshall, further explained, “I give her Quavious. I give her what my mama calls me.”

He added, “I don’t let people inside my life, and I let her inside. And she’s helping me grow up. She’s showing me how to love a woman.”

Spending The Lockdown Together and Working On New Music

Like most couples amid the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, Quavo and Saweetie have been passing the time cooking and binge-watching TV.

Since the couple only lives five minutes away from each other, they’ve been able to easily record their new music separately and still spend time together. Quavo is currently working on Migos’ upcoming new studio album, which will mark their first since 2018’s Culture II.

Saweetie on the other hand is working on a new project titled “Pretty Bitch Music.”

It definitely looks like both rappers not only have immense love and respect for each other, but they genuinely believe they are in it for the long haul. For Saweetie’s recent birthday, Quavo bought her not one, but two pricey Birkin Bags from Hermès. An emotional Saweetie was so moved that it had her doing the splits. Literally.
