Phoebe Waller-Bridge And Andrew Scott Set To Reunite In Season 2 of His Dark Materials

You simply cannot keep Fleabag away from her Hot Priest! Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to be reunited with her co-star, Andrew Scott, in Season 2 of BBC and HBO’s, His Dark Materials.

Now in its second season, His Dark Materials is a fantasy drama based on the Philip Pullman novel series of the same name.

Playing Colonel John Parry’s Daemon

HBO unveiled the show’s first trailer for season 2, which played at the very beginning of the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel. However, the biggest piece of news to emerge from the panel was that a Fleabag reunion is on the cards.

The Killing Eve writer will voice Andrew’s character, Colonel John Parry’s, dæmon or animal companion in the show. She’ll be playing a female osprey named Sayan Kötör. In the world created by Philip Pullman, the bond between person and dæmon is sacred, with the animal representing a physical manifestation of a human soul.

“My daemon is going to be played by somebody who is very close to me in real life”

Scott, whose character was revealed in the trailer for the first time, announced the news himself during the virtual Comic-Con panel on Thursday. It’s a very brief, cameo voice part, but the actor had a few lovely words to say about his soul mate.

“My daemon is going to be played by somebody who is very close to me in real life, which is a young performer and writer called Phoebe Waller-Bridge,” the actor revealed. “It’s all about companionship and friendship and loyalty and that’s what I feel about Phoebe in my real life. So, it’s wonderful that that’s happening.”

Fleabag and The Hot Priest

Phoebe and Andrew go way back. The duo met each other for the first time in 2009, when they were co-starring in the play, Roaring Trade. However, the actors became a fan-favorite on a show written and created by Phoebe, titled, Fleabag. Scott featured opposite Waller-Bridge as the ‘Hot Priest‘, in the Emmy-winning second season of Fleabag, where they played ill-fated lovers.

What Can You Expect From Season 2 of His Dark Materials?

Waller-Bridge joins new cast members Terence Stamp, Jade Anouka, and Simone Kirby for season 2, which is slated to air on HBO later this year.

At the end of Season 1, Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) opens a bridge to a new world, and Lyra (Dafne Keen) follows him into the unknown. In Season 2, Lyra finds herself in the mysterious abandoned city of Cittàgazze, where she meets Will (Amir Wilson). Season 1 adapted the events of The Golden Compass, and now season 2 tackles material chronicled in The Subtle Knife.

he original trilogy comprises “The Golden Compass,” “The Subtle Knife” and “The Amber Spyglass.” Pullman has also written a prequel, “La Belle Sauvage,” and has embarked on a new book that picks up where the trilogy left off.
