OnePlus Watch in Development Confirms Co-Founder Pete Lau, May Come With a Boom.

There haven’t been many exciting Wear OS watches recently, but that could soon change, as OnePlus has confirmed that it has a smart watch in the works, one which leaks have called simply the OnePlus Watch.

First Appearance

OnePlus has successfully brought a reach  to create an ecosystem of devices that extends beyond smartphones. The company’s efforts towards achieving this goal started with the OnePlus Bullets Wireless neckband earphones back in 2018, which are beyond awesome. Since then, OnePlus has expanded its lineup with TWS earphones, wireless chargers, and now  even televisions which gained much more popularity than anyone before.. However, the fitness wearables space is one that the manufacturer has left used till now. This is about to change drastically.

OnePlus Watch: Name and Release Date

After a phenominal success with the smartphones, it’s not surprising that OnePlus is back again with a smartwatch. Creating accessories with smartphones side by side in this modern era has been a practice in the tech industry since the boom came. Samsung has done it, Apple has done it, Xiaomi’s stuck with it, and nearly every major smartphone brand you can name is expanding its wearables portfolio which is now the general need in the present time.

However, company CEO Pete Lau confirmed in an interview that the OnePlus Watch is back in the field. He was totally shut on a lot of details but made sure that it is coming soon. We expect it to launch at some point in 2021.

Watch on wear OS, REALLY?

According to Pete Lau, OnePlus is working closely with Google to develop the software for the watch. Now, he didn’t Precisely say that the OnePlus Watch will run on Wear OS, but the company working with Google leaves little to the vision.

But, Lau freely admitted that Wear OS “definitely has room to improve.” He went on to discuss how his company is making suggestions to Google on what can be done to make the user experience better for the upcoming watch. According to Lau, this coworking effort “has been something looked at very positively from Google’s side.” Take that as you will.

The Dynamic Processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus

OnePlus and Qualcomm have had a great partnership when it comes to smartphones, and we expect to see the same for when the company launches smartwatches. Unlike the Oppo Watch that houses the two-year-old Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, which gives a quiet low experience but we hope the OnePlus Watch upgrades to the Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus.

The new 12nm chip promises the fastest clock speed (1.7GHz) on any Snapdragon Wear platform by Qualcomm to date. Compared to the 1.1GHz clock speed on the Wear 3100, this should feel like a significant boost. The new-generation chip also improves upon memory, GPU, and camera performance, and comes with a co-processor that promises great improvements to battery life. Pair this with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage, and you’ll have quite the powerful watch on your wrist.

Rumour With OnePlus Smartwatch

As we all know, The OnePlus Watch has been a part of the rumour from quite some time. But while a recent rumour suggested an indefinite delay in the launch plans for the first-generation OnePlus Watch, Sources had told us that OnePlus is still working with Google to bring its smartwatch based on Wear OS. The executive confirmed that development of a smartwatch was underway.

He underlined that the company was working with Google to bring improvements to Wear OS, including a better interoperability experience. This work could just be what major manufacturers generally do before launching their first hardware in the market.
