One Piece Movie in 2022
In 2021, the One Piece franchise had a banner year. In the previous year, Eiichiro Oda’s original manga series and its animated version both achieved 1,000 editions, marking key milestones for the media giant, as well as announcing the cast of a live-action One Piece adaptation on the horizon from Netflix, reinventing the plot.
Fans of One Piece have already been treated to an abundance of content from the series’ producers this year, but the news of a new canonical film has revived interest in the series.
On the eve of the anime series’ 1,000th episode, a teaser trailer for the next One Piece film appeared on Twitter (via One Piece Film Red). The title of the film is revealed to be One Piece: Red, and it will be released in Japan in August 2022. According to Comic Book, Oda has joined the project and will serve as the creative consultant for the forthcoming One Piece film, which will be directed by Goro Taniguchi and written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa. Unfortunately, the teaser trailer does not reveal much about the plot of the film, although it appears that fan-favorite Red-Haired Shanks will play a significant role.
The following is a teaser:
Shanks, the laid-back leader of the Red Hair Pirate crew, is one of the New World’s Four Emperors. Only the most powerful pirate captains from the second half of the Grand Line can claim the title.
Fans will be happy to see the bestower of the iconic straw hat fleshed out as the focus of his own film, as he was the motivation for Monkey D. Luffy to become the series’ pirate protagonist and chase the One Piece treasure.
