Noel Clarke Suspended By Bafta After Sexual Harassment Allegations

Actor and director Noel Clarke has been suspended by Bafta following allegations of misconduct and harassment , a few weeks after receiving one of the top awards of the institution.

In a statement, Bafta said it took the decision “on the grounds of allegations of misconduct against the actor” reported by the Guardian.

Kidulthood and Doctor Who actor, 45, was presented with a prestigious British award for outstanding contribution to cinema at a ceremony on 10 April.

Noel Denies The Allegations

Clarke said he “strongly denies” any misconduct or harassment allegation against him”.

In a statement he said he intended to “protect himself from these false allegations”.

He added: “In my 20 years of work, I have put involvement and diversity at the forefront of my work and I have never had a complaint against myself.”

“If anyone who has worked with me ever felt uncomfortable or disrespected, I am very sorry.”

Bafta’s Decision

The Guardian reported allegations from 20 women, all of whom knew Clarke professionally.

Bafta said it was suspending the star’s membership and the recently given honor “immediately until further notice”.

Clarke is currently appearing in the successful ITV police drama Viewpoint, a five-part series, and episodes are aired every evening. Its conclusion is scheduled to be broadcast later.

Noel’s Career

He has written and starred in the acclaimed film trilogy Kidulthood, Adulthood and Brotherhood – which gave a clear picture of the lives of young people on the streets of west London – and directed two of them.

The London-based actor and producer was first recognized by Bafta in 2009, when he received the awarding of a rising star. His first major role on the screen was in Channel 4’s drama-comedy Metrosexuality in 2001.

In Doctor Who, Clarke played Mickey Smith, the series’ first-ever black companion, to the 10th doctor, David Tennant.

Clarke co-created and starred in the Sky police procedural drama Bulletproof with actor Ashley Walters.

He is married to Iris Da Silva, a cosmetic designer, and the couple have three sons.

When contacted for comment, the management company and producers 42 M&P said it no longer represented Clarke.
