New BTS image from Westworld Season 4 teases the upcoming season

With a new behind-the-scenes image, Westworld star Jeffrey Wright teases the start of season 4 filming. The mind-bending HBO series was created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who also act as showrunners and chief writers, and is largely based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name. Since its debut in 2016, the cerebral series has wowed crowds and gained praise, earning 54 Primetime Emmy nominations and 9 wins.

The first season of Westworld begins in the title park, a Wild West-themed amusement park populated by technologically evolved humanoids known as hosts. The park’s high-paying guests have their every need met by these extremely intelligent robots, allowing them to indulge in their wildest dreams without fear of penalties.

Season 2 continues the storey outside of the park, with the hosts gaining consciousness. Season 3 takes place entirely outside of Westworld, with hosts escaping to a mid-twentieth-century world ruled by Rehoboam, a strong artificial intelligence.

Now, one of the show’s stars, Jeffery Wright, has revealed on Instagram that Westworld season 4 production has begun. Bernard Lowe, Wright’s character, returned from the Valley Beyond, a digital paradise where hosts go to escape the clout of humans, in Season 3. Bernard and everything around him are covered in dust when he emerges from the digital world, indicating that many years have passed. Wright’s Instagram post has a photo of his on-set chair, which is tagged with his character’s name and the words “Good morning…old friend,” a nod to his creator, Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins).

The season 3 conclusion, like the season 2 finale, raised more questions than it addressed. Following the conclusion of Evan Rachel Wood’s character arc (who will not be returning for Season 4), Aaron Paul’s Caleb and Thandiwe Newton’s Maeve must carry Dolores’ torch, while a different version of her consciousness in the body of Tessa Thompson’s Charlotte descends on a mission to destroy humanity with the help of an AI version of the Man in Black (Ed Harris). For example, Westworld is now one of the most puzzling yet fascinating shows on television, and season 4 should continue to push viewers in the same way it has in the past.
