Netflix Will Publish More Accurate Viewership Statistics For Shows & Movies

Netflix has stated that a new method of recording viewership would be used in the future, which is said to be more accurate. Netflix appears to be only getting bigger.

Bridgerton, Netflix’s most popular series of all time until recently, was launched in December 2020. Squid Game, which was released in September 2021 in the United States, recently overtook Bridgerton.

DVD rental service to a streaming platform

Netflix popularised the streaming market by shifting from a DVD rental service to a streaming platform in 2007. Later, the site accomplished something unique by releasing its own original material. House of Cards, Netflix’s first original series, premiered in 2013. Soon later, Netflix released Orange Is the New Black, which quickly became the most popular original series on the platform.

Netflix used to keep track of how many people were watching its series and movies. Netflix will now prioritize the number of hours spent watching a movie or TV show over the number of members. This new technique of tracking, according to the streaming platform, will better reflect viewing engagement and satisfaction.

The streaming site also offered a graph comparing data from the old technique of tracking account numbers with the new method of tracking hours watched. Users who opt to rewatch a series or movie will be taken into account with this new strategy. It also takes into consideration the fact that a series may be watched by numerous persons on the same account.

It appears to be a more realistic method of tracking the popularity of a series or film. If not, it’s a more impressive-looking option. The number of hours watched for Bridgerton season 1 was 625 million, which is significantly higher than the 82 million accounts that watched the show.
