Netflix Responds To Calls For The Crown To Add ‘Fiction’ Disclaimer

Netflix’s The Crown is both a combination of real-world history as well as a little bit of drama. The series does not stir away from the storyline but also does not retell the stories exactly as they are.

However, it is just a show on Netflix which fans love no matter how or what the series portrays. This is why Netflix has refused to want to put out fiction disclaimer as a part of the series. The network insists that The Crown has always been presented as a drama that is broadly based on real-life events.

The fourth installment of the series has recently premiered on Netflix. It focuses on the relationship between Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana. According to reports, the show was influencing people’s perception of the Royal Family. Oliver Dowden, UK’s culture secretary informed how The Crown should make it clear that it is a work of fiction.

He said, “I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact”. Netflix has responded to the claims and brushed off any concerns. A spokesperson of the streaming service has made it clear that they have always portrayed The Crown as a drama.

The spokesperson added that they have every confidence in their members and understand it’s a work of fiction that is broadly based on historical events. Further adding, the source said, “As a result, we have no plans – and see no need – to add a disclaimer.”

Clearly, fans do not care about The Crown’s dance between fact and fiction as they have streamed the series in millions. Recently, Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell claimed that the show’s scenes are pretty close to the truth.

The Crown Will Feature Viewers Discretion For Her Bulimia Disorder

The Crown has included a warning for viewers ahead of its episodes which will feature Princess Diana’s battle with bulimia. An insider had explained that the season features a disclaimer for viewers to inform them of the upcoming scenes. It will be depicting Princess Diana’s struggles with the eating disorder. The fourth season of The Crown has been highly anticipated by fans as it will be introducing Princess Diana and her entrance into the royal family.

The iconic role is portrayed by Emma Corrin as her character looked back at 1981 as Princess Diana marries Prince Charles. According to an entertainment portal, the fourth season will feature a warning in three of the ten episodes. The fourth season will feature the Royal Family from 1979 to 1990.

A disclaimer for viewers is to warn them as some of the scenes might trouble some viewers as it looks into an eating disorder. It is thought to read: ‘The following episode includes scenes of an eating disorder which some viewers may find troubling. Viewers discretion is required.’

Insiders claimed that the season will showcase Diana’s struggle with bulimia as her marriage to Prince Charles seems to fall apart. The disorder is discovered during the engagement of the former Royal couple.

A spokesperson for Netflix revealed, “The Crown producers worked closely with the eating disorder charity, Beat; to ensure that their portrayal of Princess Diana’s bulimia was both accurate to the disorder and sensitively handled.”

The Crown Releases Teaser

The spokesperson added that when viewers do watch the series on Netflix, they will see the warning cards at the beginning of the episode. It will also provide details of how to seek help if needed. It is rumored that the scenes will have Diana eat desserts before falling sick. This will be after her struggle of being alone as she lives in Buckingham Palace.

Diana herself opened up about her bulimia battle in her panorama interview back in 1995. She said, “You inflict it upon yourself because your self-esteem is at a low ebb, and you don’t think you’re worthy or valuable.”

The Crown recently released its Season 4 trailer as Princess Diana and Prince Charles take center stage in the new season. The highly anticipated season of Netflix’s The Crown has released. It focuses on the life of Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin, and Prince Charles, played by Josh O’Connor.
