Netflix is on its way to producing its own Britney Spears documentary. Hulu has recently released the documentary The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears.

The documentary detailed the singer’s life events that led up to the #FreeBritney movement. Right after its release, the documentary became a trending topic everywhere as it brought up immense support for Britney. The documentary also sheds light upon the misogynistic treatment that the pop idol faced from the media.

The media questioning her career and the validity of the conservatorship was also shown. This gave her father legal control over most aspects of her life including her finances. The documentary also investigates her mysterious Instagram posts and goes beyond that too.

Framing Britney Spears also revealed the heartbreaking story of how she ended up in the conservatorship. The documentary shed light on the issues with the legal structure as well. It also exposed the sexist treatment Britney received from her former boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. However, the actor has publicly come forward and apologized for the same.

Netflix Might Have More New Information About Britney

The documentary is so powerful that it goes beyond Britney’s legal situation. It calls out the media for its treatment of women and mental health. According to Bloomberg, Netflix will be releasing their own Britney Spears documentary as well. The new documentary will be directed by Erin Lee Carr. He is famous for his true-crime filmmaking in ventures like Mommy Dead and Dearest and At the Heart of Gold. the official title and release date have not been announced yet.

For the Hulu documentary, her family refused to be interviewed and their refusal could be taken as a relation to how documentaries have been growing in popularity in recent years. Netflix and Hulu have been quite head-on with documentaries. Framing Britney Spears might have debuted before Netflix’s documentary but the new spotlight on the story might be an added advantage to Netflix’s project.

Britney’s case to remove her father from her conservatorship is currently going on. There is still a lot of unknown information about the current situation and Britney’s future. Since there is no release date on Netflix’s documentary, it will hopefully have more information about the entire situation.
