Netflix declines to save Manifest Season 4 after its cancellation by NBC

Netflix has declined to pick up NBC’s recently cancelled Manifest, despite promises that it would be a game-changer. The twisted, Lost-like series debuted in 2018 and followed a group of passengers on Montenegro Air Flight 828. What seemed like a routine flight for them – save for some turbulence – turned out to be far more confusing when they landed and realised they had been gone for five years. So began the mystery of Manifest, which had been slowly unravelling on NBC for three seasons.

The third season of the show recently ended, leaving a number of huge issues in its wake. Unfortunately, NBC recently cancelled Manifest due to low ratings. Manifest was quickly sold to other networks and streaming providers, as has become standard practise for shows with loyal fanbases.

Netflix appeared to be the most promising right away, especially because the show’s first two seasons had just aired there. Since then, Manifest has appeared in Netflix’s daily Top 10 on a regular basis; it is now ranked #2 as of this writing.

Those Netflix hopes have now been shattered. The streaming service has declined to renew Manifest for extra episodes, according to Deadline. This follows lengthy discussions that lasted into this week. The reason for Netflix’s rejection is unclear, but it has put a stop to Warner Bros. TV’s search for a new home for Manifest. Continuing would have meant navigating a maze of digital rights and expired casting opportunities. Later, on social media, series creator Jeff Rake reacted to the news:

Now that Manifest’s chances appear to be completely gone, perhaps Rake will reveal some details regarding the show’s future. While it won’t be the same as seeing things unfold onscreen, it may provide some closure for viewers. On the other hand, no one can predict what the future may bring. Just because Manifest is currently unable to locate a suitable location does not rule out the possibility of a later conclusion. In television, anything can happen.
