MTV is looking out to hold the 36th edition of VMAs at the Barclays Center
The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is possibly looking into holding the 36th annual Video Music Awards this year. There has been no official confirmation as of yet. Sources say that the popular cable channel might be looking to secure Brooklyn’s Barclays Center as a possible venue. August 30th has been decided as a tentative date for The VMAs 36th edition.
An MTV spokesperson mentioned, “We’re exploring with government officials, the medical community and key stakeholders on how to safely hold the 2020 VMAs at Barclays Center on August 30th.”
This comes after the unfortunate corona virus pandemic. Quarantine measures have impacted most sectors of public life. Entertainment zones like concert venues, sporting events, restaurants, Broadway and annual gatherings have suffered.
Even so, MTV’s priority is to keep people safe. “The health of everyone involved is our number one priority. Additionally, we are working on several contingency plans to bring music’s biggest night to audiences everywhere.”
Things are looking up for now
The VMAs are usually held in New York City or Los Angeles. It is a star studded event that takes place every year to honour the best in the music video industry. However, the Barclays Center hosted its last VMAs in 2013.
If things go as planned, the 2020 VMAs will supposedly be witness to virtual performances and an audience-free ceremony. But, it seems as though the plan for now is to host a traditional physical production. Sources have revealed that MTV already sent out save the date notices to top agents and talent representatives and agents this week. Organisers also seem to be keeping a close eye on how other award shows, including the Academy Awards and the Emmy’s, pan out. Things are looking up for now because of which the program might be moving forward in its traditional format.
