Michael B. Jordan Is Named People’s Sexiest Man Alive of 2020
Michael B. Jordan dethrones John Legend to become People’s Sexiest Man Alive as he joins the long list of A-listers.
The announcement was made on November 17 in Jimmy Kimmel Live! Special. Michael revealed himself after the host and the viewers of the show were guessing who it could be. He was dressed in a hazmat suit.
When asked if he is feeling more pressure to maintain his appearance, the actor said the expectation is a little unreasonable. He said, “Just a little bit. But it’s a cool title to have.” Before the announcement, John also shared his pick for his successor. He said he felt ready to pass the throne to someone new after living as the Sexiest Man Alive for 365 days.
“I’ve appreciated the whole experience and I’ve been trying to have a lot of fun with it, but I’m so ready to relinquish this title,” the singer-songwriter shared in an interview with People.
The singer also reflected on the internet’s reaction and had one contender in mind after that. He shared how if he goes by his Twitter mentions when he was named, he came across a lot of people saying Jason Momoa should have been picked over him. The singer recalled, “That’s the one person that stood out in the Twitter feedback.”
Before John took the throne, his fellow judge from The Voice, Blake Shelton was named as People’s Sexiest Man Alive. He addressed the dethroning of him by John on the 2019 CMA Awards red carpet. The Voice judge said, “I don’t know about this guy. He’s starting to piss me off a little bit. He took my Voice championship trophy, now he’s taking my Sexiest Man Alive magazine cover away. It must be good to be John Legend, ya know?”
Michael is best known for his critically-acclaimed performances in Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther. He told People magazine in an issue out Friday that the honor is a ‘cool feeling.’
“You know, everybody always made that joke, like, ‘Mike, this is the one thing you´re probably not going to get’,” he said. ‘But it’s a good club to be a part of.”
Previous titleholders include Idris Elba, Dwayne Johnson, David Beckham, and Chris Hemsworth.
