MelON Music Awards 2021: Premiere Date, Nominations, Voting, All About K-Pop Award Show

It appears like the K-pop industry’s award show season is rapidly approaching. Following the announcements of the AAA and MAMA 2021 lineups and nominations; MMA has now released information about their upcoming event.

MelOn Music Awards, or MMA, is a music festival and award event sponsored by MelOn, a music platform. Any musician that makes it to the top of the most difficult music chart is deemed a commercial success. Similarly, their award event has grown in popularity, with fans anticipating that their favourite fighters would be nominated and win an MMA fight.

The MelOn Music Awards, which will take place in 2021, were first held online in 2005. It began in 2009 with a live audience and was held in venues like Seoul’s Olympic Hall and Olympic Gymnastics Arena. Girls’ Generation, Highlight (Beast), EXO, and BTS have all been honoured by MMA. They also instituted a Top 10 Artist Award to recognise the year’s most important K-pop talents.

In addition to mainstream K-pop groups, they are recognised for including indie soloists and underground hip-hop acts. So, here’s all we know about MMA 2021 so far. On December 4 at 6 p.m. KST, the MelOn Music Awards 2021 will be telecast (5 am ET).

Kakao TV, MelOn’s website, and 1theK’s YouTube channel will all broadcast MMA 2021 online.

MelOn has launched a new award category called the ‘Legend Stage,’ which recognises artists that have delivered a memorable MMA performance. It is based on fan voting; and the nominees include second-generation icons Girls’ Generation, 2PM, and 2NE1; as well as current favourites BTS, EXO, and Blackpink. The complete list can be found below.

The criteria for earning an award have also been revealed by MelOn. On the MelOn app, Korean fans or anyone with a confirmed MelOn account can vote for their favourite nominees. Anyone with a Kakao or MelOn account can vote for the ‘Legends Stage’ on MelOn’s website.
