Melissa McCarthy Recalls Bonding With ‘Bridesmaids’ Cast Over Keanu Reeves-Themed Stripper
Melissa McCarthy recalled her adventure at a strip club while she was preparing for her hit film Bridesmaids. The actress revealed while making an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
She appeared on the show with her husband, Ben Falcone. Andy Cohen asked her favorite example of the female cast members supporting each other. The actress shared a cherished memory from the shoot as she recalls Kristen Wiig suggesting the cast should bond by attending a real-life strip performance.
Melissa explained that there was originally a scene involved in Bridesmaid where they were involved in a male strip club. However, as we know the scene wasn’t included in the comedy hit which was also nominated for an Oscar.
The actress revealed the adventure was extra special since the dancers were putting on skits that referenced pop-culture touchstones. She recalled a particular bit that was memorable as it also included the Internet’s favorite guy, Keanu Reeves. It was particularly based on the 1999 blockbuster The Matrix, where Keanu played Neo.
“It was the guys in suits, and they were just running in place on stage,” McCarthy explained. “And then the guy playing Neo, he had a long leather duster on—lots of dusters.” The actress further shared how co-star, Rose Byrne had a little trouble getting into the grove.
Melissa revealed how Rose had her hands up when someone was dancing in front of her. She was telling the guy to not ruin her blouse with the body oil, according to the Superintelligence alum.
Melissa Launches 20 Days Of Kindness
Even Rebel Wilson cherishes the fond memories made on the trip as she posted back in 2019, a snap of the strip show. “Okay this post is a bit racy – was just going through some old photos and found these from the night Kristen Wiig took the girls from BRIDESMAIDS to a strip club for cast bonding,” Rebel captioned the shots.
The actress had come on The Ellen Show to promote her new movie, Superintelligence recently. The movie is directed by her husband as she stars in it along with Bobby Cannavale.
Melissa explained that the movie is about an A.I. that becomes aware and finds her character who is “the most average of all average people”. She further adds that A.I. decides to watch her for three days to see if mankind is worth saving.
Melissa was promoting her movie, Superintelligence which is directed by her husband. The actress had explained to Ellen DeGeneres that the A.I. ponders on whether or not to wipe off entire humanity as her character goes on her own mission. She said, “The A.I. chooses to follow me and I decide the one thing I really care about, if I have three days left, is to find my love that got away, played by Bobby Cannavale, who is great.”
Melissa also launched her own charitable campaign through her upcoming movie called 20 Days of Kindness. From the campaign, 20 charities will have benefit. “It’s a funny time in the world and in promoting this movie about kindness matters and people are worth saving and that love wins, we thought if we were going to be getting back together in our virtual way, let’s shine a light on some great causes,” she said.
The actress also mentioned the website as she highlighted the great charities which will be receiving $20,000. Fans can donate through the website to charities and it can give them an opportunity to win a new Tesla Model X. Not just that, they will also get a chance to virtually meet with Melissa.
