Megan Thee Stallion Celebrates Becoming First Rapper To Cover Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue

Megan Thee Stallion has broken another record and this time it is for becoming the first rapper to feature on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

The rapper has joined stars like Naomi Osaka and Leyna Bloom to hold the cover individually of the annual edition. She took to her social media account to share the exciting news with her fans. The Grammy winner wrote, “Thee first female rapper on the cover of @si_swimsuit. I want to thank all the strong women in my life who inspired me to love my body and live my best hot girl life,” adding: “It means the world to me to be on this cover.”

The photoshoot was conducted by photographer James Macari. Megan was seen posing in various swimsuits and bikinis on a Miami beach. The beachwear that she donned is from her line in Fashion Nova. M. J. Day who is the creative director of the feature shared that Megan does not stay in one lane. He added that the rapper encouraged everyone in multiple and that is what they love about her.

Day further said, “She captured the world’s attention with her music and style, but what caught our attention was her unfiltered approach to the way she makes you think.” He also shared how Megan uses her platform to push boundaries, dissect social norms and encourage humans to think about the backward way society continues to grow. Day said, “Megan is a vessel for change, and we are honoured to have her on our 2021 cover.”

The rapper had recently expressed her gratitude towards fans after they supported her for her debut studio album, Good News. This album went platinum in the US. The record was released last November and includes various collaborations with Beyonce, SZA, and DaBaby.

‘Good News’ was awarded platinum status by the Recording Industry Association of America (July 15) after it surpassed one million sales in the US. The album was earlier certified gold back in January.
