Matthew Perry Concerns Friends Fans With ‘Slurred’ Speech During Reunion Special

Matthew Perry’s speech and behaviour on the promo video for Friends reunion special has fans concerned.

The actor played the fan-favourite character of Chandler Bing on the show. He appeared to have slurred his words and had a gazing stare in the promo video for the eagerly awaited special. The teaser was released on Wednesday as the cast continues to promote the reunion special that premieres on May 27th on HBO Max.

While the teaser excited many fans, many also took to Twitter to express their concern about Matthew. He appeared alongside his long-time co-stars, Matt Le Blanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow. They were talking about finally being together after the hit sitcom to shoot the reunion special.

Fans noticed that at one point, Matthew’s speech sounded slurred when asked what he stole from the set of the show. “I stole the cookie jar that had the clock on it,” he said but pronounced “stole” with a distinct “sh” sound at the beginning. A fan took to Twitter as they asked if Matthew was okay as he appeared to try really hard not to slur his words while speaking. Another said: “‘Hate to say it, but I’m sad and scared like hell for Matthew Perry.”

Matthew Previously Revealed How Things Got “Out Of Control”

And a third put: “Is Matthew Perry okay?? Why does he slur his words and have a swollen tongue? I hope he’s not sick.” Even many others made fun of him but one fan pointed out that people age “funnily enough” and asked people to not use the reunion to make fun of him. The user said, “Matthew has been through A LOT since friends wrapped up in 2004. be respectful instead of judgmental. hard block me rn if you think making fun of him is funny.”

The actor has been open about his struggles previously as well. He had told an entertainment portal before that things got very hard after 1997. The actor said it got very unhealthy and out of control after his jet-ski accident which led to being addicted to the painkiller Vicodin. In a 2016 interview with Radio 2, Matthew confessed that he didn’t remember three years of the show and said he “was a little out of it.”

Either way, we love Matthew Perry and the iconic character he gave us to love all these years. While we understand fans are concerned, let us not make fun of him. Rather let us binge-watch all the epic jokes that he delivered throughout the 10 seasons of the show and be ready to watch the grand reunion.
