Marie Osmond Leaves ‘The Talk’ as Co-Host After One Season

Marie Osmond is leaving as co-host of CBS daytime talk series “The Talk” after a single season, to pursue other projects. News of Osmond’s exit comes just one year after she took over the position from her former co-host, Sara Gilbert, who left the show in 2019.

“We will miss her humor, kindness and good nature”

Osmond joined fellow panelists, Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood. The singer had been no stranger to the show, since having guest hosted more than 40 times over the years.

In an official statement released by CBS, the team thanked Osmond for her time on the show. “Marie is a consummate professional, and we thank her for sharing her personal experiences, insight. As well as incredible talents, with our audience,” the network’s statement said. “We will miss her humor, kindness and good nature, and wish her much success in her future endeavors.”

Future Endeavors

Talking about future endeavors, Osmond is roped in for another project in the works at ViacomCBS. She recently wrapped up filming for her role in a Lifetime holiday movie, “The Christmas Edition.” She also has two more such projects with Lifetime in development.

Osmond isn’t the only one exiting the show

According to reports, Osmond isn’t the only one exiting the talk show. Executive producer and show runner, John Redmann, who has been a part of the show since its beginning, left the show after 10 seasons. A replacement for Redmann is expected to be announced ahead of the show’s return to production.

Osmond also added in a statement that she is looking forward to working on new projects with Redmann. “One of the highlights of my year at The Talk was working with my dear friend John Redmann. And I’m excited to continue our working relationship on several projects we are developing.”

“We hadn’t been this alone together since 1982!!”

The exit from The Talk also coincides with an important milestone for Osmond and her family.

“My husband and I just dropped our last two kids off at college, we looked at each other and laughed. We remembered we hadn’t been this alone together since 1982!! So, at this stage of my life, I’m looking forward to spending more time with him and visiting all the kids/grand kids.”

Osmond and her husband Steve Craig, whom she remarried 26 years after their divorce, share son Stephen, who is now 37. Osmond shares six other children with her ex-husband Brian Blosil. Their son Michael died in 2010 at the age of 19.

Osmond’s departure from the show also marks The Talk wrapping up its summer hiatus. Ahead of its 11th season on the network. Panelists, Sharon Osbourne, Eve, Sheryl Underwood and Carrie Ann Inaba remain as hosts of The Talk. Until a new co-host is named. Like other talkers, the show has moved to remote production during the coronavirus pandemic.
