Kristen Bell And Jonathan Groff To Reunite For Molly And The Moon

Kristen Bell and Jonathan Groff have been roped in to be on screen again in the upcoming original musical film Molly And The Moon. The new film will be written and directed by How I Met Your Mother creators, Carter Bays, and Craig Thomas.

The movie will bring back Kristen and Jonathan who have previously come together for the hit Disney movies, Frozen and the sequel Frozen II. Molly and the Moon have been described as a musical comedy, however, it is reported that it includes drama. This is inspired by Craig’s difficult experience as a new parent.

He became a new parent back in the initial days of How I Met Your Mother. The creator said he was heading into parenthood and everything was going according to the life script he imagined for himself. He explained, “I’m going to have this healthy, perfect kid and come back and keep running that show. Instead, life served up an enormous curveball to us,’ Thomas recounted to the outlet.”

Craig added that they discovered that after Elliot was born he had Jacobsen Syndrome. It is a “rare genetic deletion where a piece of one of 11^th chromosome has broken off”. The condition results in the “loss of certain genes that goes into making a healthy, typical baby”.

The creator further explained, “I’m going to have this healthy, perfect kid and come back and keep running that show. Instead, life served up an enormous curveball to us,’ Thomas recounted to the outlet.” He shared suddenly they were living a completely different storyline than they had imagined for themselves.

Molly Is Inspired By Creator Craig’s Son

Craig said his son went through open-heart surgery at 2 weeks old. Elliot weighed less than four pounds which complicated his chances of making it through. The writer admitted to being bothered that his son might not survive the surgeries. He shared, “a kid who was different, who might have lifelong health and developmental issues. Those two journeys are so intense for anyone to go through.”

The creator shared how the child was having an “epic journey” than he has had in three decades of his life. He said how Carter, his collaborator partner, found himself wondering as well about what is the little child going through. They wondered what might he be thinking and feeling as he is lying there.

He said, “You hear phrases like, ‘Oh the surgery went well but he’s not out of the woods yet,’ and we would wonder, what are the woods like, and how would you show them?” Both Carter and Craig realized the child’s story should be told and it became the basis of their new movie.

The character in the film which has been inspired by Elliot is named Molly Moon. And Kristen will be playing the mother while Jonathan would play the father. The actors have showcased their singing skills in the superhit Frozen films.

Jonathan was a Broadway star and is known for playing the lead role in Spring Awakening; also playing King George III in Hamilton. The performances both earned Tony nominations. Meanwhile, Kristen has starred in NBC’s The Good Place. This was before she was a part of Showtimes House of Lies.
