Kourtney Kardashian tries to teach her children about white privilege

“It is my responsibility,” says Kourtney as she writes on social media how she is teaching her children about the importance of the situation.

The Keeping Up with the Kardarshians star, Kourtney, shares Mason, 10, Penelope, 7 and Reign, 5 with ex Scott Disick. She took up the responsibility of teaching her children about white privilege and encouraged other mothers like her to do the same.

Kourtney writes a heartfelt note

In a new blog post on her lifestyle website Poosh, the reality star and mother of three admits to “feeling very emotional this week,” sharing that her “heart is heavy with all the hurt and pain I have been witnessing.”

“In a world filled with judgement, it is hard sometimes to find the words, the right words, to fully express how I am feeling in times like these,” she begins her post.

“I know I need to trust the goodness inside myself and find my truth, and I would much rather speak my truth than to not speak at all.”

She writes on her Instagram account:

“As a mother, there is a natural instinct to protect my children from anything that might make them feel sad or unsafe. The pain and suffering inflicted by racism is not a thing of the past and I bare the responsibility to speak with my kids honestly and often about it, even when the truth is uncomfortable. I have to make sure they understand what it means to have white privilege and to take the time to learn and discuss Black History, beyond just one short month out of the year.

In the photo that Kourtney uploaded, her son, Mason and her were cuddled up on a boat ride.

Initiative with Poosh

She further goes on to encourage other mothers to join her in learning the process as a lesson for their children, so that kids feel comfortable enough to talk to mothers about anything. Kardarshian further encourages mothers to allow conversations without any judgement and learn from children too. She explains how her children sometimes ask questions that she cannot answer. So she explores them with her children. Kourtney also feels like she has always been on the right track regarding to this situation but assures that even she has to learn and educate herself more. She further says that she wants to be a better mother, a better auntie to her nieces and nephews, a better friend and a better person. Kourtney- founder of Poosh– rounded up books for fellow parents to refer so that they gain more knowledge about the situation amid the protests going on after the death of George Floyd. In a Thursday Poosh post, she recommended books like An ABC of Equality by Chana Ginelle Ewing and ‘The Skin You Live In’ by Michael Tyler.

Kardarshian has been pretty vocal about the entire situation. She has also been encouraging people to donate and sign petitions. Kourtney constantly updates her Poosh website to recommend books and pledges to “continue the conversation when racism and inequity cease to be a trending topic. She also made donations through Poosh to “the NAACP and the The Bail Project- two organizations that are committed to creating a more equal and just society for Black men, women, and children.”

Kardarshians contribution for BLM

Kourtney Kardarshian will #ShareTheMicNow: an initiative to let people of colour speak about the situation for better understanding of the same from June 10th.

This is an initiative by her and a number of celebrities after the death of George Floyd- killed by a police officer who pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes. Nationwide protests are going on in support of Black Lives Matter following Floyd’s death.

Multiple members of the extended Kardashian/Jenner/West family have come out with words of support about being educated and recognizing privilege; after Floyd, a 46-year-old truck driver, was killed last week following an incident where a white police officer pinned Floyd under his knee by the neck.

Kanye West was photographed joining demonstrators in his hometown of Chicago on Thursday. Donning a black face mask, the rapper, 42, wore a dark gray hoodie, tan pants.

Recently, West also created a 529 college savings plan to fully cover tuition for Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter Gianna, a representative for West confirmed to PEOPLE. In addition, he donated $2 million to support the families and the legal funds for Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.
