Kim Kardashian’s new Skims line has received a lot of criticism from people way before its release.
After receiving a lot of backlashes, Kim has taken to her social media to respond to the criticism. The beauty mogul is launching a new maternity collection and defended her line in a series of tweets.
She wrote addressing people who have an issue with maternity solution wear. Kim explained if one hasn’t been pregnant, they might not know the struggle of what it’s like carrying all of this weight that millions of strong women have bared. The reality star clarifies that her maternity line is not to slim but to support.
Kim explained, “The belly part doesn’t slim your belly. It’s actually sheer and a thinner layered material compared to the rest of the garment. It provides support to help with the uncomfortable weight being carried in your stomach which affects your lower back -and the compression on the leggings helps with pain relief caused by swelling.”
The KKW creator revealed people can wear it even after giving birth. She explained how her maternity line supports and comfort that most women need especially after birth. Kim added it helps women who are recovering from a cesarean especially.
“We launched this category in response to the tens of thousands of pregnant women who wrote us requesting it and because it was something I personally needed when I was pregnant myself,” she explained.
Ending her series of tweets, the Skims creator said she is extremely proud after receiving a lot of positive feedback from pregnant women around the world. She added she is proud to have provided a solution and support during the times that we all need it most, during pregnancy and after.
Kim announced her new line from Skims on Saturday, September 12. She captioned the launch saying it is something most women have been waiting for. She wrote, “@SKIMS Maternity is coming soon. Introducing Maternity Solutionwear that offers the best in comfort & support for your changing body during & after pregnancy.”
The beauty mogul also revealed that the line will be available in various colours and sizes, including XXS-5X. After she announced the launch, few fans had mixed feelings about it.
One Twitter user replied, “Excuse my ignorance but who’s trynna shape their pregnant bodies? Y’all don’t like being comfy and free and loose when pregnant? It’s pretty much the only time you can be as shapeless and free and comfy as you want!”
Another user said this was the one thing pregnant women needed, to slim their bodies. Someone else responded, “Slimming” pregnancy? Okay then…. In a Society of females who aren’t confident enough in their natural bodies. Let’s make the most natural part of us covered up.”
Although the line did receive a little criticism, it also received support from other women. A user wrote she wished she had it when she was pregnant but she will provide it to her family and friends. Another added, “damn wish I would’ve had this while I was pregnant it would’ve made me feel like my tummy had so much support.”
Another user noted that maternity shapewear is not a new thing and that it is available on stores all over. The user said she wore one herself which enabled her belly to be held up while wearing dresses.
On Sept. 1, the star’s SKIMS brand celebrated a major milestone: Its one-year anniversary. Kim took to social media to celebrate and expressed her gratitude to the amazing community. She further wrote, “@SKIMS 1 year anniversary on September 10th, we’re giving thanks to our amazing community! I’m so excited to introduce our Anniversary Campaign featuring our biggest fans and a [sic] some of the most beautiful women who inspire me.”
She added and thanked everyone who has made Skims possible and says it has been an incredible year. Kim also thanks her fans for all the love and support.
