Kanye West has signed a 10-year deal with Gap, to make Yeezy accessible to everybody.
Kanye has always been wanting to make clothing for the masses. He has not shied away from being open about his desire as well. By signing the deal with Gap, it seems like he is fulfilling his desires.
Kanye signed the 10-year deal with Gap to produce a new fashion line called ‘Yeezy Gap’. It will be introduced in the stores from 2021.
The new fashion line will sell for typical Gap prices. It will be priced less than $100 per item. This would mean that it will be widely accessible to everybody. It will also be reasonable than the actual Yeezy clothing line.
Kanye introduced Yeezy at New York Fashion Week in 2015. The new line will showcase “modern, elevated basics for men, women, and kids at accessible price points,” according to a statement from Yeezy.
Kanye has been talking about collaborating with Gap for a long time now. He said in an interview that he wants to be Steve Jobs of Gap. Kanye further expressed saying he needs full creative control of Gap. He has previously worked at a Gap store as a teenager.
The line would not include the rapper’s world-famous Yeezy Adidas sneakers.
The rapper took to Twitter on Friday to announce the news. He posted a picture with the caption, ‘YEEZY AND GAP FORM PARTNERSHIP’. He also added, ‘#WESTDAYEVER.’ Kanye posted a picture with Gap’s signature blue square with ‘YZY’ written in the center instead of ‘GAP’.
According to the Business of Fashion, the retailer shut over 3,300 stores and furloughed 80,000 employees because of the pandemic. It also dismissed its collaboration with Telfar in January.
“We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his Yeezy brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership,” Mark Breitbard, Global Head of Gap Brand, said in a release.
Yeezy’s value was estimated at $2.9 billion in April, according to a release.
Kim Kardashian took to Twitter to show her support to her husband. She wrote if anyone knows Kanye, they would know how much this collaboration means to him. Kim says she is very proud of Kanye. She further writes, “You guys are going to love what they have in store for everyone! From working at the Gap to this partnership is so inspiring #WestDayEver.”
Kanye also gave a sneak peek into the collection. He posted a picture of a model wearing a red windbreaker and a red hoodie.
The internet is going crazy over the collaboration. Since it will be financially accessible to everybody. A lot of fans called him an inspiration. One user wrote, “AFFORDABLE YEEZY CLOTHING. THE VISION IS BECOMING REALITY.”
Just a while back, Kanye had filed a trademark to expand his Adidas Yeezy Line into cosmetics. Although Kanye hasn’t publicly commented about the beauty line.
