John Lithgow Returns As Trinity Killer In Dexter Season 9

The reboot of Dexter has revealed that John Lithgow will reprise his Emmy-winning role of Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer. The hit Showtime series, created by James Manos Jr., follows the titular forensic specialist as he leads a secret second life as a vigilante serial murderer. Although later seasons would vary from the source material, the series served as an adaptation of Jeff Lindsay’s Darkly Dreaming Dexter.

Season 8 of Dexter ended the show’s run in 2013, however despite its strong ratings, the last season got mostly negative reviews from reviewers and fans. Following years of backlash over the series finale, showrunner Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall were announced to return for a 10-episode limited series comeback. Fans may now expect to see a famous character among the cast of newbies to the series.

While filming for the revival is already underway, Deadline has learned that Lithgow has officially gone on to reprise his role as the Trinity Killer in Dexter.

Details on how the character will return to the fold are being kept under wraps, but sources say the Emmy winner will shoot for a couple of days in Los Angeles for the series. The reboot is set to premiere this fall on Showtime.

Even when a character is as popular as Lithgow’s Trinity Killer, the verified horrific death of a character in film or television raises problems evaluate the efficacy of their reappearance.
