Jennifer Lawrence Joins Twitter to Speak Out Against Social Injustice

Jennifer Lawrence has made her debut on social media and for a good cause.

The Oscar-winning actress has made a Twitter account to speak up against social injustice.

JLaw’s new Twitter account @JLawrence_RepUs is in support of Represent Us. The ani-corruption campaign includes representatives like Kerry Washington, Rachel McAdams, Omar Epps, Orlando Bloom, J.J. Abrams, Ben Harper, Elizabeth Banks, Sophia Bush and more stars.

Jennifer serves as a member of the council.

In her first tweet, Jennifer shared a Represent Us video. The video features Omar Epps who talks about the high percentage of incarcerated Black men in America compared to all the other countries.

Lawrence captioned the post mentioning that 1 in 4 black men will be in jail at some point or the other. She writes @omarepps and @desmondmeade will explain about how to fix the system and how corruption has broken it.

In her second tweet, Jennifer posts a personal statement calling for justice in the case of Breonna Taylor.

Breonna Taylor, fatally shot on March 13 by Louisville Metro Police. Her and her boyfriend were at home, when the police raided their house late at night. They were looking for someone who was already taken into custody at the wrong address. Breonna, 26, was shot eight times.

In her statement, Lawrence writes how for three months, after Breonna’s murder, her family and people all over America have asked for justice. She continues saying still how all the call for help went unanswered. Lawrence informs that the officers responsible for her death remain employed by the LMPD. And even the LMPD’s own investigation report is inaccurate.

Lawrence says that as a Louisvilian and as a human being, she cannot be silent.

JLaw calling out Attorney General

She calls out to Daniel Cameron, Attorney General, to take action. Lawrence urges him to look into the matter with transparency.

The 29-year-old urges Cameron to hold those responsible for Taylor’s murder “accountable”.

She goes on to requests to address the LMPD’s insufficient response to Breonna Taylor’s murder. Lawrence concludes by saying “As many activists and leaders have been imploring for years: #SayHerName.”

Although Jennifer Lawrence has never had a social media account, she was a silent user. In an interviw in 2018, the Hunger Games actress admitted that she often checks social media.

She said she watches but doesn’t speak. Lawrence revealed this to Instyle at the time.

Jennifer explained that part of her not having an account is because she finds it to be too negative. She explains that she does not want that kind of energy in her life.

Lawrence went on to say that there is so much backlash. So many people pay attention and have opinions about everything. She says she does not want to put herself out there, unless absolutely necessary.

“Unless I’m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won’t hear from me,” she added.

Earlier this month, Jennifer took to Facebook page to address her fans.

She explains how this is not the time to be silent anymore. Jennifer assured that she is here to donate, learn, listen and vote. She promised to do her part everyday. Jennifer goes on to share organizations which she supports and urges her fans to join her.

Many other celebrities have urged for justice against Breonna Taylor. Selena Gomez, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Cardi B and many others have spoken out for justice in the case of Breonna Taylor.
