Jennifer Aniston and many celebrities urge fans to “wear a damn mask”
Jennifer Aniston has urged people to “wear a damn mask” to help curb the spread of corona virus. On Tuesday, the Friends alum, 51, took to Instagram to share a photo of herself wearing a face mask. The selfie was accompanied alongside a message about the importance of wearing a mask amid the corona virus pandemic. Jennifer Aniston gets candid as she encourages fans to take part in keeping each other safe from the respiratory virus.
“I understand masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable. But don’t you feel that it’s worse that businesses are shutting down. Jobs are being lost. Health care workers are hitting absolute exhaustion. And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we aren’t doing enough,” Jennifer Aniston wrote on her Instagram.
She had a sweet message for her fans, who she knew would join her in the battle to flatten the curve. “I really do believe in the basic goodness of people so I know we can all do this ????. BUT still, there are many people in our country refusing to take the necessary steps to flatten the curve, and keep each other safe. People seem worried about their ‘rights being taken away’ by being asked to wear a mask. This simple and effective recommendation is being politicized at the expense of peoples’ lives. And it really shouldn’t be a debate ????????.”
Jennifer Aniston concluded “If you care about human life, please… just #wearadamnmask ???? and encourage those around you to do the same ❤️.”
Courtney Cox, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, former lover Justin Theroux and Jameela Jamil and many more were in complete agreement.
“Just because things are opening doesn’t mean it’s safe.”
Jennifer Aniston did not just stop there. The actress even took to her Instagram stories to share some serious statistics about the increasing number of cases in the US. She even shared a tweet reading, “We just hit 2.16 MILLION covid cases in the US. Please let that sink in & stop thinking it’s safe to go out. It’s not. The only reason places are starting to re open is because the economy was crashing. NOT BECAUSE ITS SAFE. They don’t give a f— about us. WEAR A MASK and be responsible,” the actress added in the caption. “Just because things are opening doesn’t mean it’s safe.”
Aniston’s comments come as wearing face masks has become a topic of debate in the US. The actress along with many other celebrities finds the very idea quite disturbing. This is because many are arguing that being forced to wear a mask goes against their rights.
US President Donald Trump has been pictured wearing a face mask on just one occasion. The president has also previously said: “I’m choosing not to do it.” This attitude has therefore been adopted by some of his supporters. They now believe that by not wearing a mask, they are showing their support for Mr Trump.
This is despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), stating that face masks are essential in helping to slow the spread of corona virus.
Other Celebrities reminding fans to ‘Mask Up’
Jennifer Aniston is not the only celebrity to have spoken about the importance of wearing face coverings.
Reese Witherspoon
Fellow Friends and The Morning Show co-star, Reese Witherspoon donned a gingham face mask and urged her followers to use masks themselves. She addressed fans in the caption of the photo, “Hey Everybody! Wearing a mask is not a political statement. It means you care about other people’s health and safety. Be KIND, wear a mask!”
Patrick Dempsey
Patrick Dempsey, who played the role of Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy, used his beloved character’s line to drive the point home that we should all be wearing masks.
“It’s a beautiful day to save lives,” the actor wrote on Instagram. He added the hash tags “#WearAMask” “#COVID19” and “#YourActionsSaveLives” to the caption.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Last month, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was all praise for California governor Gavin Newsom. He wholeheartedly agreed with Newsom’s decision to make it mandatory for residents to wear face masks when in public spaces. He also accused anyone who made it a “political issue” of being a “moron”.
Tom Hanks
Beloved actor, Tom Hanks, who revealed back in March that he and wife Rita Wilson contracted the novel virus also addressed the pandemic.”There’s really only three things we can do in order to get to tomorrow. Wear a mask, social distance, wash our hands,” the 63-year-old actor said. Hanks and Wilson have long since recovered from the illness, having been among the earliest high-profile stars to announce their diagnoses. Hank’s eldest son, Colin even shared a step by step tutorial of making a mask out of kerchiefs.
