James Gunn had to tell John Cena that he couldn’t take his Peacemaker outfit home with him. Peacemaker, one of the newest members to the DC Extended Universe, is played by John Cena in the upcoming HBO Max series.
Cena’s Peacemaker will be a new member of Task Force X in Gunn’s sequel-reboot of 2016’s Suicide Squad, and has been described as a “douchey Captain America” who will do anything to achieve peace, including killing. In September 2020, a spinoff show was announced, with Gunn producing, writing every episode, and directing many episodes.
The forthcoming series will premiere in early 2022 and will feature several characters from Gunn’s The Suicide Squad sequel/reboot, including Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (Steve Agee). The eight-episode series will look into the origins of the titular character.
However, Gunn stated that the Peacemaker’s history would not be disclosed until after the premiere of The Suicide Squad, which is due to hit cinemas and HBO Max on August 6. Gunn also stated that other Suicide Squad characters would feature in the spinoff series, adding to the show’s hype.
Cena still can’t take off his Peacemaker outfit, despite the fact that the series ended production in Toronto and Vancouver earlier this month.
On Jimmy Kimmel Show
On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Gunn and Cena appeared alongside Margot Robbie, and Cena wore his Peacemaker outfit. Gunn joked that he hasn’t been able to encourage Cena to return the suit.
Cena’s fixation with his Peacemaker outfit is a funny gag that will most likely continue until the film’s premiere. It’s undoubtedly keeping fans excited in both the impending solo series and The Suicide Squad, which will hit cinemas and HBO Max in August.
Cena’s sense of humour and attitude seem to match the anti-hero perfectly, and he gives a fair indication of what to expect from the new series. Fans are even more excited to find out what Gunn has in store for them now that the narrative and other facts of the highly anticipated series have been kept under wraps. There might even be a season 2 if Cena ever returns his costume.
