James Bond: Oscar-Winning Director Would ‘Deeply Love’ To Direct 007 Next

The replacement for Daniel Craig after No Time To Die has not yet been announced, but a renowned director has put himself forward as a candidate to helm the next adventure – however, he does have some fears about the series.

This year the latest James Bond movie No Time To Die hit cinemas, marking a special ending for Daniel Craig’s version of 007. Since then, there has been much debate over which actor should take over as the super spy. Whoever it is, a Blade Runner director is keen to take over the leader of one of the franchise’s movies.

Upcoming James Bond: Oscar-winning director would ‘deeply love’ to direct 007

Denis Villeneuve, of Blade Runner 2049 fame, has announced he would “love” to take on a Bond movie going forward. The Canadian director was asked if Bond was still on his “directing wish list”. He replied: “Franky, the answer would be a massive yes.” The star, who was promoting his new movie Dune, went on: “I would deeply love one day to make a James Bond movie. It’s a character that I’ve been with since my childhood.

“I have massive affection for Bond. It would be a big challenge to try and reboot it after what Daniel did.” (Via Happy Sad Confused Podcast)

Denis Villeneuve has thrown his hat in the ring

Villeneuve then revealed how sad he was to see Craig leaving the iconic cinematic role. He continued: “What Daniel Craig brought to Bond was so unique and strong and honestly unmatchable. He’s the ultimate James Bond.

“I can’t wait to see [director] Cary [Joji Fukunaga’s] movie. I’m very excited. I’m one of the biggest Bond fans.” The Arrival director confessed he “didn’t know” if him taking on Bond would ever happen – but he added: “It would be a privilege. That would be pure cinematic joy.”

If Bond bosses were to take on Villeneuve for the next 007 films he could certainly bring his own style to them. The 54-year-old filmmaker has received a total of 18 Oscar nominations over five films thus far.

Throughout these films, he has won three Academy Awards. His first came in 2017 for his science-fiction film Arrival.
