International Travellers Arriving In New York Must Quarantine

New York City has introduced foreign quarantine laws following the emergence of new Covid strain and variant in countries such as the UK.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said all visitors would be instructed to stay for 14 days at the address provided when they arrived.

The New Rules

He said anyone arriving from the UK would be visited by deputy police officers to ensure they followed the rules.

Those who breach them will be fined $1,000 (£737) a day, Mr de Blasio warned.

About 18.4m coronavirus cases and more than 326,000 deaths were recorded across the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University.

New York City was at the center of the American outbreak of coronavirus earlier this year, and it has once again become one of the most affected provinces in the country.

In a statement, Mayor de Blasio said all incoming passengers should provide their contact details.

“We are very serious about the fact that if you break the law of quarantine you are endangering everyone,” said Mr de Blasio.

“We are in the final battle here, all we have to do is pass this holiday season,” he added.

Many countries – including almost all 27 EU countries – are already imposing restrictions on travel from the UK, as governments reduce the spread of coronavirus over the Christmas period.

COVID Strain Found In UK

This week the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed that a new strain of coronavirus was the cause of the country’s high crime rate.

On Wednesday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said something different was still being discovered – from South Africa – in the country.

The two species are still being considered, but the government has said it is confident that both are more easily transmitted than other species.

But the UK government has said its new, stronger locking mechanisms will help curb its spread.

Cases In The US

The United States continues to report the world’s highest crime rates and Covid-related deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University figures.

In all, about 5% of US people are known to have been infected since the outbreak began.

The daily cases have been on record since the beginning of November, and many provinces are full of hospital numbers.

U.S. regulators have recently approved two vaccines – one made by Moderna, one by Pfizer and BioNTech – and sent in more than 9.4 million doses across the country, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The government has signed an agreement with Pfizer to buy another 100 million doses of its vaccine.

But last week, the US general in charge of distributing the jabs apologized after several states learned they would receive fewer drugs than expected.

As of Wednesday, more than a million Americans had the first injection, the CDC said. Earlier this year, the government promised to punish 20 million people by the end of 2020.
