The Indian castle that was built with so much love and care yesterday crumbled miserably. The test really could have gone either way if the Indian batting order had shown the grit they did yesterday. Despite the lack of grass on the wicket, the rub of the green has gone England’s way. Robinson and Overton made short work of the Indian middle-order today, at a time when Anderson was having a rare off-day. Once again, the stalwarts of the Indian middle-order have wilted alarmingly under pressure when questions were asked of them. As it turned out, Pujara and Kohli’s resistance was a false dawn and Indian carried over some latent complacence in addition to the confidence from last night – and England has wrapped it up swiftly and clinically to break even in this series, despite their “depleted” bowling resources.

As Harsha Bhogle rightfully tweeted, “Yesterday’s resolve has been eviscerated in the face of some outstanding bowling this morning. Back to London at 1-1, then!”

Wickets just kept tumbling and the Indian batting order didn’t put up any fight today. India was 237/4 in the 90th over and in just the next 9 overs, India was bowled out on 278. After yesterday’s heroics of India, some experts had even claimed that India can make a comeback to win the match. And of course, all the Indian fans wanted that to come true.

But the Indian batsmen just kept nicking the ball: to Butler, to Root, to Bairstow. The English wicket-keeper and slips were really busy in this test.

Pant was seen batting recklessly. It’s one thing to play your natural game and the other to play recklessly. Pant should have realized the gravity of the situation that Team India was in. And should have taken some time to see the ball, bat out some overs.

James Anderson reaches another Milestone
