India look to win the series in the 2nd T20I Match against New Zealand : Paytm Trophy

India vs New Zealand, 2nd T20I (N), Ranchi, Nov 19 2021, New Zealand tour of India

In spite of the absence of many of their first-eleven players, such as Kane Williamson and Devon Conway, the first T20I between India and New Zealand was not short of drama or quality. India eventually managed to take a lead in the series after problems in later part of chase. And with just one day off, they’ll have a chance to win the series as well.

As the never-stopping juggernaut rolls to Ranchi now, there will be a focus on player workload management as well, ensuring that players don’t suffer from Bio-Bubble fatigue. Despite the rest offered to others, both teams have enough players on the bench who would be pushing for a spot in the final eleven.

India’s shaky finishing has come up as a point of worry even though they’re just one game into the series. Similar questions will be posed to New Zealand’s attack, some of whom barely posed a threat for large parts of the chase.

Even with those as immediate concerns, both teams must give enough game time for those warming the benches, with the preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup already in sight. For India, amongst those targets will be to check out Venkatesh Iyer’s bowling potential and forming a bigger pool of fast bowlers for the format.

They had a problem of lack of early wickets in the powerplay coming into the series. They managed one in the first T20I, but would be looking to improve this stat. The presence of Yuzvendra Chahal in the reserves also offers some depth, despite the good showing of both Axar Patel and R Ashwin.

For New Zealand, the runs from Mark Chapman at the top of the order was a good sign amongst the new faces tested out but the middle order tumbled at the finish line in the absence of regular Jimmy Neesham. The pressure will be on the likes of Rachin Ravindra to fill that gap and enhance his security in that position. A similar expectation would be had with Todd Astle as well, even as Ish Sodhi waits in the wings.

Team Latest News:
It’s highly unlikely that India make any changes in the playing XI. They could consider bringing in Yuzvendra Chahal for Axar Patel but given they are playing only with six batters, that would further weaken their lower-order batting. So, that option seems to be out of the box.
India (probable): 1 Rohit Sharma (capt), 2 KL Rahul, 3 Suryakumar Yadav, 4 Rishabh Pant (wk), 5 Shreyas Iyer, 6 Venkatesh Iyer, 7 Axar Patel/Yuzvendra Chahal, 8 Deepak Chahar, 9 R Ashwin, 10 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 11 Mohammed Siraj
With the series on the line with this match, New Zealand could bring in James Neesham and Ish Sodhi but at the same time, it won’t come as a big surprise if they want to give Ravindra and Astle another opportunity.
New Zealand (probable): 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Daryl Mitchell, 3 Mark Chapman, 4 Glenn Phillips, 5 Tim Seifert (wk), 6 James Neesham, 7 Mitchell Santner, 8 Tim Southee (capt), 9 Trent Boult, 10 Lockie Ferguson, 11 Ish Sodhi
