India end Australia’s 26-ODI winning streak, complete their highest-ever successful chase in ODIs

They have done it again – if you want to break streaks, count on India to do the job! Joyous scenes out in the middle as India lap up the victory. They came so close to ending the streak in the 2nd ODI and how fitting that Goswami who failed to do the job a couple of days back with ball in hand, does it here with the bat. And the celebrations that followed showed how much it to meant to her and the Indian team. Also India’s highest-ever successful chase in ODIs.

Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia laid the roots for the win with a superb second-wicket stand and even though Australia fought back with regular wickets after breaking that partnership, cameos from Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana and that winning blow from Goswami ensured India kept their nerve to close it out. There were iffy moments for the Indians as catches were dropped and run-outs missed by the Aussies on the field, but nothing should take away from the spirited performance of the Indian girls.

Not many teams would have come back from that demoralizing and denting loss in the 2nd ODI but these Indian team are made of different gravy. Immense mental strength and fortitude to bounce back to end the streak two days later. The ODI series is done, but now there’s  Pink-ball Test contest starting between these two sides on Thursday [30th September] – the first-ever for India; another great occasion for this bunch.

Jhulan Goswami declared Player of the Match

Goswami, who bagged three scalps at the lowest economy rate among all the bowlers(3.70) was declared the player of the match. In the post match presentation, speaking about their historic victory, she said,”We were just trying to take the game till the end, try to stay there and finish the game. We lost the last match by a narrow margin – was difficult for myself as well as the team, but today was a new day.

I wanted to keep the ball in the right area and if I did that, I knew I could get breakthroughs. That was what I did. It’s important to give your best in the field, take positives and that’s what I want to do as a senior. Lots of soreness in my body having played back-to-back games, need time to recover, but we’re looking forward to be a part of the first-ever pink-ball Test.”

Remember this is a multi-format series, so the points at the end of this game is: Australia 4 and India 2.
