Images from Season 5 of The Crown First Look At The New Charles And Diana

In The Crown, season 5, Netflix has released the first official photographs of the new Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki). The Emmy Award-winning Netflix original drama portrays the complex lives of the British Royal family and launched in 2016.

From the late 1940s to 1990, the series’ first four seasons covered multiple decades. Season 5 will be the show’s penultimate season, with creator Peter Morgan revealing that season 6 will be the final season of The Crown.

As was the case in season 3, the time jump in season 5 will see the debut of a whole new group of characters. Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Downton Abbey) will follow Claire Foy and Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, with Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Jonny Lee Miller, and Olivia Williams as Prince Phillip, Princess Margaret, John Major, and Camilla Parker Bowles.

It has been announced that the upcoming episodes will focus on events from the early 1990s, and season 5 is intended to represent Princess Diana’s sad death in 1997.

First Official Look

The first official look at Netflix’s new Charles and Diana series has been released. Fans have had their first look at West (The Wire, Les Misérables, The Affair) and Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) as the extremely unhappy royal couple in two separate photographs.

While the images don’t provide any specific plot information, they do capture the lonely, depressed tone of the season 4 conclusion, which found Charles and Diana imprisoned in a failed marriage.

Given the season’s 1990s setting, it’s safe to assume that Charles and Diana’s strained relationship will continue to be a major narrative theme in the future episodes.

It won’t be the only source of drama, though, because it’ll be surrounded by a star-studded group as the remaining royal family and its inner circle. The Crown, season 5 is more than capable of tackling this tumultuous period of recent history, thanks to such a well-chosen cast of performers and showrunner Morgan’s capable hands.
