Huma favours ‘complex characters,’ describing Maharani as a ‘work of fiction’

Huma Qureshi, who will next be seen in Subhash Kapoor’s Maharani, says she is proud of her successes in the industry. The actress, who first appeared in the Gangs of Wasseypur movie in 2012, most recently appeared in Zack Synder’s Army of the Dead. Huma Qureshi, an actress, says she is pleased of the woman she has become after overcoming numerous led to issues on her path to success.

Saleem Qureshi, the owner of one of the most successful restaurants in the national capital, Saleem’s, and his homemaker mother Ameena Qureshi are the parents of the Delhi-born actress.

“I had to overcome a lot of things like everyone else, like my own fear of success, the fact that I arrived from a new city, had to learn how to make friends, pay my taxes, run a home, run my business, and nobody was there to educate me,” the 34-year-old actress, who made her acting debut with the Gangs of Wasseypur movie in 2012, told PTI in an interview.

“It has shaped me into the woman I am today. I am quite proud of the fact that I came from nowhere. I am a self-sufficient woman who runs my own life. I’ve created my own identity, which fills me with delight and pride. It is a source of pride for my parents “she continued.

In her new online series Maharani, the actor portrays a gentle village woman who gets handpicked to become Bihar’s chief minister. Huma described her role as Rani Bharti in the Bihar-set series as the “role of a lifetime,” and stated that writers and filmmakers need to create more well-rounded female protagonists.

“It doesn’t have to be about the woman all of the time, but there should be more female protagonists. That is quite significant. As a result, a part like Rani Bharti in ‘Maharani’ excites me.” Subhash Kapoor, who handled the actor in Jolly LLB, is the creator of the series, which will premiere on SonyLIV on Friday. The director is Karan Sharma.
