‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Sara Ramirez Comes Out as Non-Binary

Sara Ramirez has come out as non-binary. The Grey’s Anatomy fame, took to their social media handle to make the announcement.

Sara wrote, “New profile pic. In me is the capacity to be a Girlish boy, Boyish girl, Boyish boy, Girlish girl. All. Neither #nonbinary.” The actor also posted a picture along with their post.

Sara also wrote on their bio that they will use she/her or they/them pronouns. The actor used to play Calliope Torres on Grey’s Anatomy for almost ten seasons before leaving the medical drama. She received a ton of positive comments from fans and followers who appreciated her.

RuPaul’s Drag Race runner-up Peppermint commented, “I love you with every fiber. You are such a bright light it’s almost hard to fathom. Thank you for sharing. I can only think of how many young folks will feel even more held by you. No pressure. I’m just SO PROUD. I’m in tears.”

Sara got married to her husband, Ryan DeBolt, back in 2012. The actor never opened up about her sexuality until 2016. She used to play Callie on Grey’s and the character also battled confusions regarding her sexuality until later identifying as bisexual in the later seasons.

Although in 2016, Sara came out as bisexual while she was giving a speech at the True Colors Fund’s 40 to None Summit in Los Angeles. The actor revealed, “Because of the intersections that exist in my own life: Woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican & Irish sides.”

Sara expressed that she is deeply invested in projects that allow youth’s voiced to be heard. The actor said that support should be given to the youth in owning their own complex narratives. So that people can show up for them in the ways they would need them to.

Ramirez later took to Twitter to confirm the news, writing: “#40ToNoneSummit #SpeakingMyTruth! I Will post a full video of speech soon! #ThankYou @TrueColorsFund #WomanOfColor #Bisexual #Queer #Immigrant.”
