Good Omens Season 2 Begins Filming

The second season of Good Omens has begun filming, according to author and co-showrunner Neil Gaiman. Gaiman stated that Season 2 of the Amazon Prime series, based on the 1990 novel, will premiere in June 2021.

He is returning to write and co-showrunner, with Michael Sheen and David Tennant, set to reprise their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley respectively. The film is based on the 1990 novel Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, which follows the efforts of angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley as they seek to stop the impending catastrophe.

After years of development hell with movie and TV adaptations, including the death of Pratchett, Amazon teamed up with BBC Studios to co-produce the series, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2019. Fans had kept a close eye on production since its announcement, with Sheen teasing the production’s start date on Twitter by dying his hair to match his character’s.

Gaiman has now revealed that production on the surprise and much-anticipated season 2 has begun. He offered a small preview of the studios where the second season would be filmed in Scotland on his personal Twitter account. The graphic depicts the studio entrance, with the phrase “Get thee behind me, wicked fiend…After You.” scrawled in black on the door, referring to a dialogue between Aziraphale and Crowley in the series’ opening episode, “In The Beginning..”

Gaiman said he didn’t know who did it, but he liked how the quotation was waiting for him when he left the studio on the first day of shooting, indicating that more production had started. The following is Gaiman’s original tweet:

Fans Hope To Catch A Glimpse of The Narrative

Before its surprise renewal in June 2021, the second season of Good Omens was thought to be unlikely, considering the first season had already covered much of the storyline of the original novel. Gaiman disclosed in an article on his online diary that he and Pratchett mapped out ideas for a sequel in 1989 when unable to sleep due to jet lag while travelling to a convention in Seattle, which was subsequently integrated into the television series.

On Tumblr, Gaiman was asked if a sequel will ever be developed, to which he replied that it relied on a number of variables. Season 2 of Good Omens caught many of the series’ and novels’ devoted fans off guard, as many awaited any further news with bated breath.

Many fans are hoping to receive a glimpse of where Aziraphale and Crowley’s narrative will go next because Gaiman is active on social media, constantly communicating with readers on Twitter and Tumblr. With the story only being known by Gaiman, the cast, and crew, viewers speculate on how the angel and demon’s relationship will develop further, and what will come next, now that the apocalypse has been rescheduled.
