‘Give me any role in Heeramandi, I’ll do it for free,’ Alia Bhatt reportedly said Bhansali

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, famed for extravagant films like “Devdas,” “Bajirao Mastani,” and “Padmaavat,” has teamed up with Netflix for “Heeramandi,” a pre-Independence set series.

The series will investigate stories of courtesans and the secret cultural realities of “Heeramandi,” a brilliant region in pre-Independent India, according to the filmmaker, who recently finished 25 years in show business.

It’s a series set in the kothas, about love, deceit, succession, and politics, with Bhansali’s signature larger-than-life sets, multi-faceted characters, and beautiful music. The expert filmmaker with an eye for detail and intense complexities only he is capable of will construct this piece-de-resistance, according to the streamer. Bhansali, 58, hailed “Heeramandi” as a watershed moment in his career as a director.

Alia Bhatt’s admiration for Bhansali

Alia Bhatt, who played Gangubai Kathiawadi in Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, is so excited about his new series that she has stated her wish to work on it for free. According to a source who alerted of the news, she reportedly urged Bhansali, “Give me a role, any role, in Heera Mandi, and I will do it for free.”

“It’s not like Amitabh Bachchan, who refused to take a dime for Black because the filmmakers couldn’t afford to pay him what he was worth. Heera Mandi has Netflix as its producer. Every actor is being paid his or her full price,” says added the source.

With “Khamoshi: The Musical,” Bhansali made his directorial debut “in the year 1996.  “Black,” “Guzaarish,” and “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela” are some of his other notable efforts.
