Getting to Know Upcoming Starlight Dehandrè van Tonder

The world is full of beautiful people. Sometimes, we look at someone and can’t stop thinking that God spent enough time making sure they look every bit ethereal. One such personality that has made everyone fall in love with her looks and charisma is South African model Dehandrè  van Tonder. We recently caught up with her and asked her a few questions regarding her inspiration and future goals.

What inspired you to start modeling?

Dehandre: As a little girl I always liked to take pictures of myself or asked my friends to take pictures of me. I love to be in front of the camera and always looked up to older models, was a dream of mine since forever to become a full time model one day.

How did you get your start?

Dehandrè: I got scouted on instagram when I was 16, but full time modeling only started for me when I finished school.

Who are your role models in the industry?

Dehandrè: Emily Ratajkowski & Xenia Deli. They are not afraid to embrace their femininity and both hardworking woman in the industry that I look up to.

Describe your first modeling job.

Dehandrè: My first modeling job was a swimwear campaign. I remember how scared I was but enjoyed every minute of it. 

What has your favorite modeling job been and why?

Dehandrè: A bridal shoot I did for Milla Nova. As a shorter model in the industry, it was a very proud moment for me. I could prove to myself that I can do more than what I was used to.

Where have you traveled for work? Anywhere in particular that stands out?

Dehandrè: My first year of modeling I travelled to India, it was quite an experience and I learned a lot. Due to the pandemic my travel plans did not happen as planned in 2020. I’m very blessed to be working in Switzerland now & enjoying every minute of it. My Swiss agency Visage has already locked in a few very important projects that i will work on in the next few weeks we can’t say the brands names yet but I am very excited to share what is coming.

Describe your career goals?

Dehandrè: I would love to give my all in the next few years and put my full focus on modeling and work for big brands.

What type of role does Instagram play in your daily life and career?

Dehandrè: Instagram has helped me a lot to put myself out there and to be seen in the industry. I also got my first modeling opportunity through instagram. 

Today, brands are often looking for multidimensional models that bring another quality or attribute, aside from their beautiful looks, to the table. What do you believe makes you stand out?

Dehandrè: Everything is natural to my appearance and I would say being a shorter and curvy model in the industry.
