Genda Phool plagiarism row: Ratan Kahar dismisses claims of Badshah reaching out to him

While Badshah had earlier said in his statement that he tried reaching out to Ratan Kahar, the latter dismisses all such claims!

The single Genda Phool featuring Badshah and Jacqueline Fernandez is being loved by the people. But amid all the love, the song had started facing plagiarism issues. The song has lyrics of a Bengali song, which were originally written by the veteran artist Ratan Kahar.

The rapper had reacted to all the allegations, putting out his statement on social media. In his defence, he had written, “We had however, done our due diligence before releasing the song, and nowhere on any copyright societies or on any of the previous reprises/versions of the song was Mr. Ratan Kahar credited as lyricist…”

Badshah had even claimed that he tried reaching out to Kahar, as he wrote, “After receiving so much information from the Bengali community, I have been constantly trying my best to reach out to him and connect with him and be able to do justice to the situation to all my might…”

However, the Bengali veteran artist says otherwise. He told HT, “It’s nice of him to say such things but no one has contacted me as of now. I just want recognition to begin with. That would be of great help.”

When asked about the remuneration that he should get, he told the daily, “We’re dealing with poverty, there’s not much money at home to even get my daughter married. So if I receive some monetary help that would be a respite.”
