‘Friends’ Reunion Special Delayed Again Until 2021 Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

The Friends reunion has been delayed yet again because of the global pandemic. The highly-anticipated reunion will be there for us next year.

Sources informed Variety after a story published on Friday. They informed us that the production is delayed until May 2021. However, we do not have the exact date with us. The reunion was originally supposed to start filming by next week.

The original cast has jumped on board with the reunion. It is said to be unscripted and the shooting will be held on the show’s original soundstage on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Calif.

Neither HBO Max nor Warner Bros., have commented on the delay. WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt previously spoke about the first delay. He informed in May that ongoing production holds across Hollywood had become unavoidable but the ultimate goal to complete the special hadn’t changed.

“At first we thought, shows will be delayed for a month or two at the most, and now it seems like it’s going to be far longer than that,” he said at the time. “We’re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer if the stars align and hopefully we can get back into production.”

Jennifer Assures She Will be There For You

One of the cast members, Jennifer Aniston, spoke about the delay. The Emmy-nominee played Rachel Green in the iconic Friends sitcom. She expressed her sadness but is looking at this in a positive way.

The actress said, “Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to move it again,” Jennifer shared. “It was, ‘How do we do this with live audiences?’ This is not a safe time. Period. That’s the bottom line. It’s not a safe time to do it.”

However, Jennifer assures that this will only give them more time to make it better. She also gives us hope saying it is going to be amazing. “It’s going to be super. You know what? This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been. So I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed,” she says.

Jennifer added that they are there for us. She assured us saying they are not going anywhere and that we are not going to get rid of Friends. “Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life guys.”

Well neither do we want to be left alone. Fans can watch the comedy series on HBO Max until they are back.

David About the ‘We Were On a Break’ Debate

In an interview on The Tonight Show, David Schwimmer set the record straight after all these years about Friends. The debate had started back in the day in season three of Friends. David’s character Ross got together with another woman after an argument with his girlfriend, Rachel. Jennifer Aniston’s character, Rachel accused Ross of cheating. However, Ross said they had broken up when he hooked up with someone else.

The couple has time and again argued about it in the sitcom throughout various seasons. Ross used to say all the time that ‘We were on a break’.

David said people are passionately divided on this subject, in his interview with Jimmy Fallon. Although this time he took a stand as well. He said it’s not even a question and that they were on a break.

Friends started in 1994 and made ten seasons before ending in 2004. David has revealed that he initially decided to pass on the role. Well, we cannot imagine anyone else playing Ross, and fortunately for everybody, he did not pass it on. David explained why he was planning to pass it on because of his miserable experience as a series regular. After his horrible experience before Friends, he actually vowed to never do another sitcom.

The Emmy-nominated actor said he had moved back to Chicago and he was doing theatre with his company. He recalled when his agent got a call about Friends he immediately said no.

However, Jim Burrows came to the rescue. He was directing the pilot episode of Friends. Burrows said that creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman had written the character Ross with his voice in mind. That is when David knew he could not say no to it.

David further explained when he came to know they had him in mind while writing the character, he felt like it was the biggest compliment. And we all know that he went on to do it.

The actor further talked about the HBO Max reunion of Friends and gave us a little tease. He said it is unscripted and that it is a really funny interview. It also has some surprise bits according to David.
