Electric vehicle (EV) startup Fisker has issued its first recall for the Fisker Ocean SUV due to problems with the instrument panel warning lights. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the Fisker Ocean’s display showed brake, park, and antilock brake system warning lights in incorrect font sizes and colors, violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Additionally, the NHTSA noted that “multiple warning lights fail to illuminate during the ignition cycle.”

According to the NHTSA, Fisker will address the issue through an over-the-air software update. The agency has also issued a stop-sale order to dealerships until the updated software is installed. While the official recall only applies to the 6,864 Ocean SUVs in the United States, Fisker has indicated they will be updating the 4,056 Oceans in the European Union and 281 SUVs in Canada as well.

This recall comes amidst a challenging time for Fisker. The company has halted production of the Ocean and significantly reduced its workforce as it navigates financial difficulties. It is important to note that this recall is separate from the four ongoing NHTSA investigations into the Ocean, which focus on inadvertent automatic emergency braking, sudden braking loss, vehicle rollaway, and malfunctioning doors.

Fisker is working to rectify the software issue and ensure the safety of Ocean drivers. The company’s ability to navigate these challenges and regain consumer trust will be crucial for its future success.
