Users Call Olivia Rodrigo’s Song Of The Year Win At MTV VMAs 2021 “Rigged”

Olivia Rodrigo made her debut at the MTV VMAs 2021 as she had garnered 5 nominations at the award show. She won the award for Best New Artist and Song of the Year. The singer also won the Push Performance of the Year.

She garnered appreciation for her debut performance at the ceremony. Olivia was donning laced-up gloves and a tie-dye tutu. The Driver’s License singer has been on the top charts and streaming platforms since the beginning of the year. Her debut song Driver’s License won Song of the Year Award.

Her song was up against Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s WAP, BTS’ Butter, Dua Lipa and DaBaby’s Levitating, 24K Golden’s Mood and Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak’s Leave the Door Open. The singer performed her song, good 4 u with a team of dancers who were masked and giant CGI butterflies.

After her performance, Olivia was announced as the winner for Song of the Year. She thanked her fans and described it as “incredible”. She added, “This has been the most magical year of my life and it is all because of you guys so thank you so much. Thank you to the VMAs and everyone who helped me make ‘Sour.’”

Olivia further added that she wants to dedicate this to all the girls who write songs on their bedroom floor. Her loyal fans were excited about her win. However, the majority of users have dubbed the award show as “rigged”. A user stated, “I would’ve been fine with wap or bts because they were battling every week on the charts.”

Another user said they were shocked and cannot believe that. The user questioned that Olivia cannot win an insta poll but she can win an award. Another person tweeted, “I knew this was comming i mean they cant just hand all the 7 awards to bts so they did this.”While one user concluded, “Come on!!! Awarding a song that you know is not the best of the year, its graphics say that. And worse, a song that has been proven to be plagiarized is very shameless.”

The Awards were hosted by Doja Cat, MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) 2021 were held on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
