Famed Irish Singer-Songwriter Sinéad O’Connor Announces Retirement From Music

Sinéad O’Connor has announced her retirement from music and all her performance tours via a number of new tweets.

Posted last night (June 4), O’Connor wrote: “This is to announce my retirement from tours and also from working in the recording business. I am old and tired. ”

What Did She Say?

The singer went on to say that her upcoming album, ‘No Veteran Dies Alone’, will be the last album by her.

“NVDA in 2022 will be my last release. And there will be no more performances, tours, or promotions. ”

She also then added: “This is not sad news. It is wonderful news. The hero knows when to back off. It’s been a forty-year journey. Time to put the feet up and make other dreams come true.”

Last Album Details

This morning (June 5), O’Connor added: “I’m sorry if there’s any annoyance caused by booking staff or promoters or managers because of my tweet about my retirement.

“I guess the book made me realise I’m my own boss. I didn’t wanna wait for permission from the men, as to when I could announce it.”

Earlier this week (June 3), O’Connor shared more details about her eleventh album, confirming the title, ‘No Veteran Dies Alone’, and its 2022 release date.

According to O’Connor’s tweets last night (June 4), the release looks set to continue.

The Irish singer-songwriter gave a sneak about the album back in December, revealing that its undisclosed cover art was created by Donegal artist Jacob Stack and that fans can expect a record “by the end of 2021”.

‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss’

The singer has confirmed that the 2014 follow-up to ‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss’ will arrive in January, although no strict date has been set.

O’Connor told Steve Wright on BBC Radio 2 earlier this week (June 2) that the album will be out next year and told The New York Times in her latest interview that it will feature seven songs.

Belfast musician David Holmes, who described Sinéad’s vocal on the album’s title track as “undeniable”, is producing the album.
