Ellen Pompeo Says The Future of Grey’s Anatomy Is Still Undecided

Ellen Pompeo revealed that the future of ABC drama Grey’s Anatomy is yet to be decided. The actress had previously shared that the current season might be the last while speaking to CBS Sunday Morning.

She said she cannot reveal it because they haven’t decided on it yet. The actress shared, “I can’t say. Can’t say. We honestly have not decided. We’re really trying to figure it out right now.” She was then asked if they were in the middle of deciding whether it ends or not to which the actress said yes.

Ellen has been a part of the show portraying her character of Dr. Meredith Grey since the show began back in 2005. She shared the question is about what story they tell and to end a show as iconic as theirs, they have the question of how should they do it. The actress said, “I just want to make sure we do this character and this show and the fans – I want to make sure we do it right.”

She had previously hinted that this season could be the end of the show. The actress does not only star in the epic show but she also serves as a producer. She revealed how they do not know when the show is really ending. The Grey’s Anatomy star shared, “We don’t know when the show is really ending yet. But the truth is, this year could be it. I’m constantly fighting for the show as a whole to be as good as it can be.”

Kate Walsh Will Love To Return As Addison

Ellen revealed that as a producer, she feels she has the permission to be able to do that. She shared that this is the last year of her contract and she does not know if this is the last year but it could be. On the other hand, previous stars have expressed their delight in wanting to come back to the show.

Kate Walsh who played the role of Dr. Addison Montgomery has revealed that she would love to return to the hit series. She was a part of the show for seven years and shared that she is always open to return to the medical drama. The actress was also asked if she would be keen on making a cameo in the upcoming season to which she heartily agreed.

She further cited some technical issues on account of the distance but said an appearance was in the cards. “’Of course! I mean, I’m here in Western Australia so it would be a big trip so I’d have to see. But, yeah, I’m always open to it. I’m here,” the actress revealed.

However, Kate had a solution for the problem of being so far away from the set in Los Angeles. She suggested that Addison could call in or zoom in. We already have characters returning from the past as Patrick Dempsey surprised us with his appearance in the Season 17 premiere.

The actor is loved by fans as Dr. Derek Shepherd aka McDreamy and he played the love interest who further turned into the husband of Meredith. Their characters were on-and-off on the show before finally getting back together and eventually getting married. But McDreamy was killed off in 2015 and came back in season 17 in a dream sequence.

The reunion of their character came as a surprise and delighted long-time fans of the show. Kate had also addressed the return of old characters as she shared how it was incredible to see them make surprise appearances. She also joked on her social media handle that Addison would not be happy.

“U already know how Addie would’ve reacted to this,” she wrote while sharing a photo of Dempsey and Pompeo embracing. The actress had starred in Private Practice which was a spin-off of Grey’s and the show premiered from 2007 to 2013.
