Dr. Dre responds to wife Nicole Young’s divorce filing, Reveals Prenup
Dr. Dre’s wife of 24-years, Nicole Young, filed for divorce from the mogul last month. This week Dre, born Andre Romelle Young, responded to his estranged wife’s petition.
The latest filing comes after Nicole Young cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the couple’s split, and is seeking spousal support from the 55-year-old Dr. Dre. The media mogul has amassed a major fortune in his time as an N.W.A member, solo rapper, producer, co-owner of Death Row Records and founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics.
Forbes, who have consistently included Dre on its list of the world’s wealthiest hip-hop artists, estimate Dre’s net worth at $800M, from his business ventures to his musical catalog.
Child Support
Child support wouldn’t be an issue since all their kids are over 18. The couple share two adult children, 23-year-old son Truice and 19-year-old daughter Truly. Dr. Dre also has four children from previous relationships. However, Young has also requested division of division of their multi-million-dollar properties along with spousal support. According to Reports, Dre is OK with paying alimony, but it’s unclear how much he’s willing to shell out.
Prenuptial Agreement
In his filing, Dre agreed to pay spousal support, but added that division of assets should be governed by the couple’s prenuptial agreement.
This comes after Young’s petition made no mention of a prenup, and sources close to her claimed she never signed one. If the initial reports had been accurate, Dre would’ve likely had to split his nine-figure fortune, which includes everything from music royalties to real estate.
“Well, of course, anything he acquired before marriage is his separate property, with or without an agreement. And sold Beats during the marriage and there doesn’t appear to be a separate component to it,” Los Angeles-based attorney Peter M. Walzer revealed following the divorce announcement. “So that’s a huge amount of money and it’s probably all community property.”
Representation
The 55 year old record producer is being represented by his attorney, Laura Wasser, who filed the documents on his behalf. His paperwork also noted his date of separation from Nicole was marked as March 27, weeks into the coronavirus pandemic.
Young, who is a lawyer herself, is being represented by high-powered attorney Samantha Spector. Spector, a popular celeb attorney, has also represented quite a few notable clients, including Jenna Dewan and Amber Heard.
Dre and Young
Dre married Nicole Young on May 25, 1996. She was formerly married to NBA player, Sedale Threatt. They made their last public appearance as a couple at the Tom Ford fashion show with their daughter Truly in February this year. The same month, Dre talked about his birthday plans that included his wife, during an interview with BigBoyTV.
He said, ‘I decided to just keep it low-key this time. I’m going to have a few friends over and my wife is going to do a crab boil for me. I love crab. We’re just going to kick it, kick it in my backyard.’
Dre has often posted sweet messages about his marriage on his Instagram, revealing in 2018 that he has whisked his wife away to New York via helicopter to see the musical Hamilton for their 22nd wedding anniversary.
